What kind of liscence for Trike in your state

This is being discussed on the VTX board, I was surprised to see some states consider a trike needs a car driver's liscence and isn't considered a motorcycle (CA and UT) I wonder if its because there are alot of trikes with car engines?

So I'm curious, in your state do you have a motorcycle endorsment and tags for your trike? Oklahoma does!

This is the definition from Iowa Code section 321.1

40. a. "Motorcycle" means every motor vehicle having a saddle or seat for the use of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground including a motor scooter but excluding a tractor and a motorized bicycle

In the UK you can ride a trike on a full car(cage) license you do not need to have a motorcycle license.

In Ohio, you can ride a trike (defined as a 3 motorcycle) if you have a motorcycle license. You cannot ride a trike with just a car license.

However, you can get a 3 wheel endorsement on you car license id you pas the 3 wheel motorcycle test. With the 3 wheel endorsement, you cannot ride a motorcycle.

In California if you ride and motorcycle with a sidecar OR a trike you are not required to have a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license.

The vehicle is still licensed as a motorcycle.

Mass still considers the trike a motorcycle thus you need an indorsement or just a motorcycle licence

Louisiana requires the MC endorsement to ride a trike.

Michigan. Motorcycle endorsement on drivers license req'd. Registered the same as a motorcycle. They don't even differentiate between a 2 wheeler and a trike. As far as the State is concerned, they are the same animal.
