Road recommendations

Will be visiting Mt Airy on my way to Orlando, trying to stay off the interstate and out of large cities as much as I can. I thought about going down rt. 601 thru S.C. I have two days to reach my destination. Any thoughts on going this way, or suggestions on another way? Thanks

U.S. 601 to U.S. 301 at Orangeburg, SC and then south to Florida is not a bad ride. It's slow going, but far more interesting and enjoyable than I-whatever.
