As funny as that is, the sad part is that you just know there are some really screwed up troublemakers out there (read environmentalists) that would read about this and want him arrested for animal cruelty and then start a petition to have motorcycles banned because they are a hazard to wildlife. Sounds silly, but you know it's true.

Heaven forbid, don't ever hit a spotted owl.

@DonnieOnTheRoad I read your post and was expecting see a big turkey buzzard, or a large crow ...... not a cute little sparrow!!! LOL! The other thing that caught my attention was the fact that you had a helmet, good on you! That may have saved a little more pain or worse. Some of us get "the bird" more than others! LOL. Glad all ended well.

@Monk LOL! Poor little thing! post # 2 @Steve F LOL! DUCK! post # 9

It's a nuttail woodpecker. Based on these size against the floorboard, I'd say it is an adult.

Had some bird in late autumn 25-odd years ago along the Florence Highway catch me on the head and mirror...

A whole flock of them were along the side of the road - and as I drove by, they flew into the roadway. Well, one was a little lower than he expected to be - I terminated his life instantly.

Buried in the back of the 'metal' mirror body (front facing...) was either a piece of beak or of talon. It was small and I could never dislodge it from that.

Glad you came out on the better end of that deal, Donnie!

Donnie, very rare bird indeed, and you will probably be hearing from PETA or one of those other animal rights groups any day now...actually it looks to me like it might be a of the most worthless birds on earth. Glad all you got was a "head knocker."
