Sears is selling Craftsman tools

Sears is unloading Craftsman tools to Stanley Black & Decker for 525 million.

I got most of my Craftsman tools back in the 60's and 70's. Never bought Snap on because of the cost for them, but Sears kept bumping up the price of Craftsman tools to where I'd go down to just look to see what they had then buy some place else.
So is Stanley Black & Decker Craftsman going the way of AT&T to form a Monopoly? I know not really.

Yep. Now made in China. Not only THAT, but they are of a lesser quality, also.

Ridge Tool Company used to make Craftsman Tools. Not anymore.

I wonder how this affects that "lifetime warranty"

Pretty soon, Harbor Freight isn't going to be looking so bad after all.

They have several lines now. I think there is an Evo line without the warranty. Even so, the old Craftsman line still has the lifetime warranty. They might not be as good, but they'll replace it as often as you break it.

This may not be as good as before though. To a real mechanic, the point was that it didn't break in the first place. The lifetime warranty just backed up the quality but you hoped you never needed it.

Having said all of that, in my experience they are still decent tools. Maybe not as good as before but still good enough to use without issue. I've personally bought some of the newer Craftsman stuff and have had no issues with it and functionally I can't tell the difference between it and the stuff I bought 20 years ago. China makes some junk and they make some decent stuff too. Point being, they might be made in China but they are still way better than a Harbor Freight tool also made in China as the HF stuff is made cheaper steel and less exacting tolerances resulting in a significantly inferior tool.

I just traded in a 1/4" drive ratchet that failed. The girl said the replacement ratchet is still Lifetime Warranty. That's when she said they were all made in China

I own lots of Craftsman tools and yes they are mostly great tools. Harbor Freight also sells lots of great tools at very reasonable prices along with a bunch of nearly worthless junk, the last 10 years or so I have bought quite a few high quality tools at Harbor Freight. Unfortunately the upper management at Sears has been mostly sleeping on the job for many years , they used to be thee major retailer but I suspect in a few more years there will be no more Sears nothing. They have already sold lots of stores, one thing for sure times are always changing.
