Bucket List....

We are in a position where we HAVE to take a trip into Europe this spring. (O shucks!)

Since our tickets will be paid for, and we can be a bit flexible, we are going stay another couple weeks. My bucket list includes a ride on the Amalfi coast. We will probably just do a larger moped for the week we are in the region, but are considering splurging for a larger bike.(although from what I read, it looks to me like slow is probably the rule of the day)

Anybody done this kind of trip and have any suggestions or warnings?

TIA...

Try Edelweiss Bike tours.....you can rent a "big" bike and have a great European experience. Be prepared to spend some coin........

A little more info would be helpful. Time of year? Are you looking to stay near the Med? All in Italy? Northern Europe? What type of things would your other half like to do?

Bavaria is beautiful. The romantic road is a must do. Rothenburg is a bit farther north (A medieval walled city).

The autobahn is nice but once in a lifetime trips are better spent as a flower sniffer

Southern Italy has its own relationship with traffic laws, norms, and sanity. I made the mistake of stopping at a red light in Naples one time and the guy behind me almost lost it on the horn. I think there is a lot to be said for a small, nimble bike, but I wouldn't read that as "slow" and suggest not skimping on enough power to move along. Particularly if "we" means two up.

The Giro d'Italia will be running for most of May -- Italy's version of the Tour de France. Not through Amalfi, this year it starts in Sardinia and works its way around the instep of the boot then over to the heel and up the east coast. It will be up in the Alps, etc., by late May. Lots of epic rides up there. My bucket list involves seeing the race go by, yours probably doesn't, just realize it's in town and is a spectacle to either behold or avoid.

This is my signature block. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My signature block is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life....

We spent the better part of three years in Europe, including the Amalfi Coast. I won't try to describe it all in this thread but you can read about it all at www.bobkatsjaunt.com.
The Amalfi Coast is on this page, http://www.bobkatsjaunt.com/naples.html

Read all about them at The Adventures of Lemonade
