No offense taken, but I use mine because I wear motoport mesh Kevlar pants and jacket. It's a bit abrasive and rubbing on the sides will eventually start rubbing the paint. I cut mine smaller to where I know my knees are. Easier to put on tank pads than to repaint part of the bike, IMHO. Same for the small area where the helmets touch on the back. That said, to each their own...

I agree Fluke, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'd rather not have the knee protectors, but I get tired of removing the marks from the sides of the tank, even though I try not to do any 'knee squeezing', it's there after every ride. The marks will eventually evolve into minor scratches. So far, I've not found what I'm looking for, so maybe I'll just keep rubbing out the marks.

Exactly my thoughts. Plus, in my case, my motoport suit scratches paint very easily, so it's a needed accessory for me.

Customize safely.

While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I see no need for them either. I have 110,000 on my pearl white, with a little wax my bike looks almost new. I hear paint on the newer bikes is inferior to the 08, maybe that is the issue?

Didn't 3M make a product a few years ago that was clear and adhesive? Used it as a headlight protector on my GL1500. Don't know why you couldn't use it as a tank protector as it would let the OEM paint shine through.

I'm not sure about the 3M product, but FWIW Techspec use to make a clear version, I had it on one of my Gixxers, but I don't see it listed on their site anymore, looked great for a couple months, but after that was a dirt and grim magnet so I removed it and went to the black color.

Please say NO to chrome...
