It will export from the phone and create a .GPX file. Not sure whether the factory GPC can accept a .GPX file though.
For someone like me who has difficulty finding new roads to ride (I'm usually a "point a to point b" person), this will really be nice! I just tell it where to start, and how far I want to ride, and it creates a "twisty" route for me! I may have to try it this weekend!
I believe factory GPS does take .GPX files. However, it would be rather tricky to do all of it on the phone, than save it to the micro-sd card (if you have one in the phone), than take it with an adapter to the bike. I have to see if I can find it on the computer as a website, rather than a phone app.
But on my desktop I would be able to modify the route if I want to.... Grab the route and move it where I want to. Can't do that on the phone (I think?)...
Yes, you can edit the route on the phone all you want. This is a mobile app, not a website or PC app. It's not meant to be done outside of a mobile device. Perhaps an android emulator might enable you to use a PC to run it.
Well, I tried the app on my phone this morning, and it worked quite well! I also discovered that my previous post was a bit misguided. It turns out that you can, in fact, build a route online at http://www.kurviger.de and export the route to your PC as a .gpx, .kml, or .itn file. It also will give you a direct link to the app on your phone with a QR code if you don't want to transfer it to an external gps system.
Voice-guided turn-by-turn directions are only available on the paid version of the app, but you can just use the free version if you want to watch the screen manually. I'm not sure whether an exported file will engage the external GPS's voice guidance or not.
The ability of this app to find non-highway routes is rather nice. I will definitely be using it for some weekend stress-relieving rides.
Can you create a route, and uploaded on a Garmin?...as one would with BaseCamp if you spend 4 yrs trying to understand it...or better yet, re-writing its codes to fit human-ergonomics!!
It appears to me that if you have a laptop and an internet connection you don't need the phone app at all, you can just go to the website and create the route on it.

I wouldn't know. I bought a GPS navigation unit about 15 years ago, but ever since smart phones have included GPS as a standard feature, I haven't needed to use anything else. After all, I already pay $500-700 for a phone with GPS in it that auto-updates and gives me live traffic data - why pay for another unit that only does GPS? I don't understand why people still use those navigation units.
Well, I live in Utah, and have driven through Nevada, and have not had any issues with a lack of cell coverage. I suppose there may still be places that don't have coverage, but those places are very few and far between nowadays. A paper map would be more than adequate for those unforeseen moments IMHO.
I travel all over the western US by motorcycle, and I'd say that at least 50% of the time, I don't have a cell phone signal, or more. So if the maps aren't self contained on the GPS, then it's useless for the places I ride. Go ride in the Rocky Mountains and see how often your cell phone works between towns. Or on backroads in almost any western state. There are HUGE dead holes with no cell service all over the country. I suppose it might work ok if you stay on the interstates and major roads, but that isn't how I travel. The best riding roads are usually the exact ones that have no cell coverage.
That article is for backpackers who know what area they will be hiking in and can pre-load small area maps ahead of time for where they will be hiking in.
When I leave on a trip, I typically will cross 6-10 different states. Can you pre-load the entire western USA map section into a phone GPS so it will still work without a signal? My Garmin has the entire USA loaded into it. Can you do that with a phone app? I honestly don't know, cause I haven't tried to use any of the new ones. If there is a phone app that can hold all the maps of the US, then that might be a viable replacement.
"We are working together with the Scenic app. This is our Kurviger iOS integration, this means you can calculate Kurviger routes in Scenic. Once you calculated the Kurviger route, you can navigate completely offline, including rerouting."
With the paid version, will it give turn by turn voice guided navigation? I love the way it routes!
For Android, the Kurviger Pro app provides turn-by-turn navigation. For iOS, the Scenic app provides turn-by-turn guidance as well.
