Yes the light will work if just plugged into the connector and not installed in the housing. If meter the plug (with the high beams on of course ) you will get 12 volts across the plug. However, also connect one test lead to a good ground and then the other lead to the bulb socket to ensure you have voltage going to the bulb and not a bad ground return path from the socket (has happened before).

As to the right high beam bulb - it gets power from the high beam relay located in the relay bank under the seat. Left hi beam gets power from the high beam switch on the left handlebar - which also triggers the under seat relay.

You can have a bad relay giving you issues, or a bad ground. There is also a headlight fuse in the fuse block - don't forget to check it also.

High beams

I think you will find the label with what each relay is for stamped on the relay box cover. There are plenty of other items that use the exact same relays in the box. Just swap them around to test. Other things will fail if you move a bad relay.

Thanks will give it a try, but my thinking is that if its the relay both high beams wouldn't work but my left light is working

See post above. Only right high beam is powered off the relay. Left side is powered straight off the high beam switch.

Ok another up date after getting the bike back together,I want and ran some errands . while pulling up to a store i could see in the store window I Had no lights on. I hit the brights and they come on but the low beams were not lit with them . Got home and took the seat off to check every out again ,only to find a white wire with black strip on it that was spliced together that had came apart. Solder it back together and all seems well , I'll keep monitoring it to make sure.

Glad the issue is found and fixed.

The props go to @ssncob . He is the one that first pointed to the relay as likely culprit.

Thanks to both, you and ssncob, although it wasn't the relay playing with them help me notice the wire being pulled out.
