The first online dealer that I looked at had that $820 discounted to $578.
Does anybody pay MSRP these days?

Many folks do when they walk into a dealer and order a part. And even $578 is still ridiculous for an alternator.

Loving my decision to purchase the Honda Extended Warranty more and more every single day!
So far: One new front fender (back half) and one new LCD . . . I'll just be sure to sell her about a year before this thing runs out!

For what its worth . . . use "Google Shopping" for "honda goldwing alternator 1800" and you'll come up with quite a number of folks selling them for roughly $125-$150 including shipping.

Current Bikes:
* 2013 Honda Goldwing Air Bag
* 1971 Triumph Bonneville
* 2007 Kawasaki KLR650
* 2015 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited

Looking at at a CanAm Spyder RT-S, but those things, parts and maintenance is expensive too. Guess I won't be doing that.....Getting expensive to play, how much longer can we play???

I had a similar experience with my pinzgauer army truck.... I smoked my alternator and mechanically damaged a circuit card in it.... new alternators from suppliers were $1500.... it was a 24 V Bosch.... I took it to a a guy here in Tucson that's been rebuilding alternators and starters for generations.... he told me no problem.... he said very rarely he can't get parts.... and he can rewind the stators and coils if needed. .... he called me back the next day and quoted a $80 price and he would have it done in 5 days.... if I wanted it in 2 days I would have to pay overnight fed ex delivery charges for the parts....

It looked every bit like brand new when I picked it up...... I would never hesitate to have one rebuilt by a rebuilder if you can afford the inconvenience of time.

I don't think there is anything special about a goldwing alternator..... have it rebuilt.
