Oh Oh. He said "Rocky." We'll never hear from him again.

This is also the company that my good friend "Rocky" recommended buying from.

Looks like you tried to order on the internet? I would give them a call. I got the same message before I called them. Maybe just a web problem. Maybe I got lucky. Good luck.

Phil, I did try ordering over internet. I just called and it is in stock. Informed him of the problem ordering over internet and he said would be corrected. Sounds like a great guy to do business with.

Can these alternators be rebuilt? New brushes put in?

Yes, brushes, bearings and other parts are available for them. I decided with cost of parts a new alternator with warranty for $300 was a better choice for me.

I may still replace rear bearing and brushes in my old one to have as a spare. Called and ordered alternator at 1:00 pm and already received email with tracking number, shipping today.

I see AJ-Electric has the OEM Honda alternator for the '01-'04 for sale at a much cheaper price. That's a new unit , not rebuilt. If I read techdudes post #2 correctly, he is saying the older wings can use the alternator designed for the '06>.

I agree, probably the best way to go. From what I've read on here, the windings usually give up the ghost first. I never recall reading about an GL1800 alternator that failed, just because of worn brushes.

I have 150,000+ miles on my original alternator and I'm really thinking on giving the ol' AJ a call. I been hunting Ebay for one off a wreck, on and off for a year or so. Throwing a $100+ for one off a wreck with unknown miles, or just about as many miles as mine doesn't sound very appealing.
