Looks like I will be tearing the forks down. I can't remember which side has the extra metal ring. At least I remember 1side having more parts than the other. 2008 Goldwing.
Might be worth trying a device called "Seal Mate"" made by Motion Pro. My left fork started leaking late last year; cleaned it using one of these and it's been dry ever since.
Yes the sides are different. However, it shouldn't matter if you're only tearing down one side. You can't go wrong using the manual as a guide. Make sure you don't install the rings upside down (as I've done) if it's the left fork, or you'll be doing it again sooner than later. :serious:
Or take a piece of milk jug plastic and cut it to the shape of a Seal Mate and save yourself $10 or more.
We used to use bits of 35mm film when we were teenagers riding dirt bikes. Later we started using milk jug plastic when film wasn't so readily available any more.
I think the Seal Mate people are genius, taking a well-known dirt-bike trick and marketing it as something new and cool. I've never been that far-sighted.
