Death Valley over Presidents Day Holiday

Death Valley over Presidents Day Holiday

For those forum members who aren't aware of the DV gathering that takes place in Feb. here's some info so you can think about attending. This gathering is 9+ yrs. old and still going strong. I believe it was started by a few AZ riders and it has been picking up steam every year. It's a 3 day event but you can come and go as you please as it's a "do your own thing" event. The only plan is......their is no plan. The group stays in Beatty NV and most get there on the Friday of the Presidents Day Holiday. On Sat. after breakfast most of us ride into DV to see the different sites and some do the Scottys Castle tour. I'm not sure if Scottys Castle will be open for tours in Feb. as they had flooding damage last Oct. and some roads were damaged also. Best to do a search to see how the roads and Scottys Castle is. On Sun. a group usually rides over to the Bishop area for what else......food and more good conversation. Can't go wrong with that combination. Most folks pack up Mon. morning and head home. I'm sure others will chime in with more useful info on this gathering. We have had riders attend from as far away as Tenn. and as close as Las Vegas. It's never to early to plan for this.

I'm looking at this one real good. It's still a ways off but I am going to start planning on it. As it stands right now the only thing that might hinder me is severe weather between here and there. DV is on my bucket list.

Tried to join y'all last year but timing and weather failed me. I ended up in Kauai, but without my wing, what a bummer. If Idaho weather behaves itself and ice melts off I plan on breaking out for the weekend. Planning ahead of time for this one. I hoped to run DV last August on my return from Tucson but monsoons in AZ changed my routing. Hope to see y'all this year, I'll be ready to thaw out.

You might want to check with Bobby because he said the same thing and I thought he mentioned that he would be taking a different route this next time that wasn't as cold.

Cold just means hotter coffee and more juice to the suit; its the ice that was more of a problem (6 west climbs through 7200 feet and it was even cold this August at midnight). Need some of those studded Alaskan tires LOL

What hotel in Beatty NV.
I planed to attend this event past three years but somehow the work got in the way (I hate when that happens). I am planning to be there next year. I am going to take two weeks off so I can do Big Bend National park too, not sure it would be too cold there or not.

There's 3 or 4 if you google them, but most stay at Motel 6. The Stagecoach Casino across the parking lot has rooms, I"ve never stayed anywhere but Motel6 there.

All the "action" is in the Motel 6 parking lot in the morning and the Stagecoach Casino at night.
