Indiana/Kentucky to Charleston, SC - Spring 2017

Hi all! I'm planning a trip from the southern Indiana / Louisville, KY area to Charleston, SC ...probably April time frame.

Three requests for advice:
1. Has anyone made this general trip in the past and if so, what are your route recommendations?

2. If anyone is interested in joining from the beginning or along the way, please let me know.

3. This will be the longest ride I've ever made (1,500+ miles round trip). What are the main things I need to consider and plan for?

Thanks!!
Dave

Lexington, Ky to 460 to Paintsville. 23 to Pikeville then work your way over to 52 and stay on 52 to Charleston. That will take you on part of the "Coal Heritage Trail". Not a bad ride but not as twisty as 28.

Thanks for the advice 1s Sgt! I definitely enjoy the curves, but don't need them all the way down.

Well, just a quick summary. Based on a near-ideal (for February) weather forecast, I decided to make this trip this past week. I left Columbus, IN Sunday morning and just returned home yesterday. 1,800 miles total in 6 days...PERFECT weather with sunny and partly sunny skies the whole time and temps between 50 and 78! I could not have asked for a nicer vacation. I rode my first Tail of the Dragon then spent two days just riding around the Low Country. Highly recommended!! I'll probably head back down there this Fall, but will hit more US highways (like 52) on the way down. After making this trip, I really can't imagine traveling long distances on any bike other than a Goldwing...just awesome!!
