First and (my) Last RTE of the 21st century

Who is making plans for the biggest RTE of the century?

Where will you be?

The 21 August (ECLIPSE) event is the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in the US since 1918.

The Moon's shadow begins its journey across Earth's surface - the path of totality - out in the Pacific.

It makes landfall near Newport in Oregon at 10:16 local time (17:16 GMT; 18:16 BST); and leaves the continent close to the Atlantic coastal city of Charleston, South Carolina, at 14:49 local time (18:49 GMT; 19:49 BST).

The location that will experience full darkness for the "greatest duration" is just outside the town of Carbondale, Illinois.
Totality there will last 2 minutes and 40.2 seconds.

HaHa, I'm 'bout to get in the saddle right now & go scout the best campsites & west facing overlooks on Cherohala! Full dark crosses the entire Cherohala Skyway from Tellico Plains, Tn. to Robbinsville, Nc.
Dead center crosses 5 places in Tn. & 2 in Nc. We should get 2 min 36 sec.

Best interactive map I've found so far...

Anybody looking for a motel or camp spot anywhere near the path of totality better get on it right quick. I plan to head down to Oregon or Idaho, but don't want to commit to a specific spot so that I can adjust according to the weather at the time. But out of curiosity I looked for rooms in Idaho Falls which is right near the path. What is normally about $120 was going for about $900!!! Talk about "surge pricing". I also checked out a KOA in the middle of nowhere in Idaho (but near the path) and already no room on the date. Bend, Oregon, didn't look to promising either. I'll either do a long ride from home (~500 miles) or, more likely, find somewhere about 200 miles out and use that as a base.

From my front porch

Well, I don't have to go anywhere, and no motels for me. I can watch it from my front porch, as this is what I get...

Now I might be able to be sweet-talked into sharing a guest bedroom or two - but first offer goes to @Glockjock.

I ride too fast, too far, and too often to ride anything but a Goldwing rolling on a car tire pulling a Tailwind trailer because friends don't let friends vote Democrat.

So, are you leaving Newport, Oregon at 10:16 local and planning to arrive in Charleston, South Carolina at 14:49, riding in a total eclipse all the way?
