North of Coldfoot, the slightest bit of moisture turns the Dalton Highway into 4-inch thick slime. I rode to Prudhoe Bay in 2014 on a KLR-650, which I though was the right tool for the job. Although others have successfully done it on large touring bikes, I wouldn't even think of taking the Wing up to Prudhoe Bay. Besides the mud, the calcium chloride they put down on the road to prevent erosion is extremely corrosive.

I believe the record is 80 hours and change. So 6 days is doable, but why. The IBA allows for under 30 days.

I don't know what his motivation is. He said he would take his time coming back to view the scenery. He must either know someone he is trying to "beat" or some contest. May know more the second week of March when I see him.

IBA Ultimate Coast to Coast

I have plans to do this ride as my next Iron Butt ride. This is not a typical Iron butt ride. I think the reason it's given 30 days is due to the fact that the road turns to crap north of Fairbanks and anything could happen. I plan on getting there in 10 days but have 5 days set aside in Fairbanks watching the weather for 2 good days to get to Deadhorse and back. I just returned from Belize and my bike took a beating. New alternator and will pick it up today. If you cruise at 65 or 95, you're still gonna see the same scenery. I plan on doing about 5 or 600 miles a day give or take. I gonna but another Goldwing just for the lower 48.

I have a friend that made a journey from Missouri to Prudhoe Bay and back in 13.5 days. 10,000 total miles - and 1,000 miles of that was gravel.

Some people are tougher than others. Here's hoping that your friend is tough.
It's not for me.
