Friend traveling from Florida to Alaska

I have a friend in Houston area that is planning a trip from Key West, Florida to Deadhorse, Alaska in June. ~5,600 miles. He thinks he can make it in 6 days. That's his goal. He drives a 1600 BMW and does drive fast. I know he will drive FAST. So, if he gets several days in jail for 30mph over speed limit, I'm guessing 6 days isn't long enough. I think 6 days in a row of 900+ miles will be quite a challenge. He is planning on camping about half the time. This is going to be interesting following his progress.

At that pace he won't be doing much of a pictorial ride report unless he's good at snapping pictures one handed while riding. I plan on making good time for the first 2-3 days just to get across the middle of this big country, but then the speed and miles traveled per day will drop considerably as I try to enjoy this lifetime adventure....something I'm not sure your friend will accomplish.

His "site seeing" is coming home. I guess driving clear across USA diagonally in a minimal number of days is some sort of "long distance challenge" or iron butt thing of some kind.

"Fast" has nothing to do with it and if he truly thinks that he will be a short timer.

933 miles per day I think means he would have to average about 38 mph , but that's not figuring gas stops, sleep, food, maintenance .

Ya, that's closer to 39 mph assuming he likes to ride 24 hrs per day.

I see my friend in a little over 2 weeks. I will learn a little more about his trip. First he drives from League City, TX to Key West so he has a 1,350 mile trip to "warm up" on. I just think it will be tough to keep up over 900 miles a day for 6 days plus cross the border after his "warm up" ride. Last time I did that it took an hour just to get into Canada. Previous 2 times I drove right on up to the booth though and it didn't take 5 minutes.

If he can do 900 miles a day for 6 days in all that unbelievable scenery -- He is a better man that I. The Dalton Highway will slow down that Big BMW 1600 significantly, especially when he gets past Coldfoot.
