Vacuum line caps, the little rubber that blocks a vacuum line tube around a carburetor might work to hold that phone snug.

Enjoying the trip very much. What camera do you use? I don't think I could talk/write at the end of each day like that to keep a blog current and running. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks ... Glad you're enjoying it. It is tough and does take some time but I enjoy writing about my passion and sharing it.

I use and Apple IPhone 6S currently.

Just finished today's journal and posted it to my web site.

Heading back east tomorrow and will revisit those Twisted Sisters roads we missed on the way in.

I appreciate your excellent note keeping as I will be riding to Dallas to meet up with friends at the end of the month to head to Big Bend. Been wanting to do that for a long time and can't wait. Please share any things you wish you had taken with you and any that you took that were not necessary.

Thanks, safe travels!

Donnie, thanks for the photos and write ups. We'll be heading that way in June, and have the Hill Country and Big Bend on our list of places to go on our way to Colorado. Like Newventurer, I can't wait to get out that way.

Speaking for Donnie, his packing consists of throwing some stuff into the bike one hour before departure and pulling out for points unknown hoping he can find fuel before he runs out.

I've discovered, he gets exhausted quickly when discussing fuel stops.

Thanks ....

As Bob (Monk) has already pointed out I'm probably not the right guy to ask what to pack and what not to pack. I've taken so many road trips over the years I seem to just know what to throw in the bag and bike and literally just Wing it at the last second. Guess I'm that way on fuel too ... or so I've been told lol. Here's a thread I found for you about packing and what to bring on long trips. Take a read through this for some ideas.

Click here --> Long trip packing

Good Luck .... and enjoy your road trip to Big Bend ... I hope some of the things I shared on my journal will be helpful to you.

Donnie

I have a ram mounted X grip up front to hold the iPhone. When I'm ready to take pictures I unplug it and remove it from the holder and hold it in my left hand and snap away at various angles while moving down the road. I take a lot of pictures and edit out the bad ones throughout the day. I'm usually left with a few really good pictures that I select from to use in my journal. I also take a lot of pictures when stopped too.

Not safe I know. Not an ATGATT rider either. I do a lot of crazy stuff that normal people don't do. I know all this rubs some people the wrong way but that's who I am and how I ride and I don't pretend to be someone I'm not.
