3/8" is a little over 9mm so it is possible to skim it down to 8mm and re-thread it M8 to suit. I see you've gone ahead and bought an antenna, my understanding is that Sierra simply fit a 3/8" to M8 adapter to the antenna, it would be good to know whether this is the case. Perhaps you could let us know when you receive yours.

Received my antenna in the mail today and unscrewed my "fold down" section
and screwed my new shorter antenna with adapter in place in less time then it took me to post this fed back.............

Oh, did I mention I'm a slow typist......

Aha! so all you need is the adapter from 3/8" to m8 then you could use any ol' truck stop antenna! Hehe...

Actually, I've just finished reading a pile of antenna stuff for another purpose and there was a good quote which tickled me, perhaps you'll appreciate it too; "A cubic meter of common sense has far more mass than a cubic meter of intelligence."

Let us know how your new antenna holds up.

So what exactly did you end up buying? Did it come with the inch to metric adapter? Would love to see a photo of it on your Wing! I want to get rid of that fulgy long antenna.

I bought antenna with the adapter shipped with it.
Remember now... this is a stationary antenna that doesn't fold down.
I decided on the 16" length, they can be shipped either 16"-18"-24" length.

I'll try my radio reception to see how well it works tomorrow which I don't give a crap,
because I never play my radio anyway, just music through my I-pod.

I will post a picture soon at no charge...................

I am sorry to be a bit thick, which one did you order that mounted and still folds down? I don't have a CB and rarely use my AM/FM but hate the long antenna.

Thanks!

Hi Dave, I bought the 36" when I bought Blue Bike, felt I needed the length because I ride with a group that uses the CB for communications. I am now seriously considering trying the 24" to check the reception. I have attached a couple of pics.

Yep, thats exactly what I want in terms of still being able to fold it to put the cover on. Would you please point me specifically to the antenna you purchased. Sierra has a bunch of options.

Once converted to the 3/8" thread using that adapter you could use normal CB antenna fittings, there's a number of fitting which will allow you to fold down the antenna or even allow you to remove it altogether if necessary.
eBay could be your friend....
