Built In Navi

Hello all,

My new ride was delivered yesterday. I am trying to get acclimated with the electronics. I have quite a bit of experience with the zumo 660/665 platforms and see that I will have to adjust/compromise to the new rules/operating limitations.

What is the update frequency of maps for the built in Navi? Mine currently has 2015.40 which appears to be current per http://garmin.com/goldwing. Garmin is either way behind on the maps available for this unit or their website descriptions are out of date. Assuming the former, what is the frequency of the updates? Although I wouldn't think it a deal killer, it is a step back from the world of always up to date with lifetime map updates on the Zumo.

City Navigator North America NT 2018.10 is the latest map update.
I have read on this forum that the Goldwing Navi update releases
are controlled by Honda.
They are released very infrequently for the Honda Navi.
The Honda Navi can be updated with every Garmin map update,
but not legally.

I keep my Goldwing updated, but also have a Zumo 590 mounted
on the handlebars.

FYI - How to update your NAVI to the latest everything

Thanks for the info. After posting, I found that thread. It seems everything Garmin ends in a roadblock. Sad.... I'd be more than willing to pay whatever Garmin charged for map updates, be it lifetime or singularly. I will need to rethink keeping the 665 around.

Just curious as to what Zumo features are missing on the Navi that led you toward having both in use?

I can operate the Zumo while moving is the biggest reason. ( there are hacks to operate the built in Navi while moving)
The processor seems much faster.

I like the XM weather radar on the built in Navi.

Thumbs down

I also miss my Zumo for having the capability to operate the system while on the move. I really miss that capability with the Navi. I am considering putting it on the wing. It also has updated maps.
