Hello, My wife and I are leaving Friday for Cali, looking for roads off of I40 saw a highway out of Kingman Oatman Rd turns in to Topock Highway then back on I40. Is this road worth riding?
Thanks for any input.
Get off I-40 at Seligman and take Route 66 to the west. Stop at the Sno Cap Drive-In in Seligman. It's been around for 50(+) years.
66 will dump you back down into Kingman.
Be careful coming down the hill on the west side of Kingman before you get to Oatman Rd. DPS likes to sit at the bottom and catch folks over the limit.
The road to Oatman is also part of the old Rte 66 but it's fairly rough. As you climb into the mountains it will drop down to 1.5 lanes and then in some places it is only 1 lane wide but you can normally see oncoming traffic (there isn't much) far enough in advance to be aware of what might be around the next corner.
Oatman is an old mining town that is fairly touristy now. The biggest attraction is the burros that roam the streets begging for handouts. After you leave Oatman and head back south to I-40 the road is MUCH better. Big sweepers, some ups and downs.
You will see remnants of old mines all around the Oatman area.
yep, DPS officers like to hide on the entrance ramps onto the freeways around the over-passes , (etc) on the roads into and out of Kingman
