Taking a ride over to Taos, NM next week and was thinking about taking Hwy 36 north out of Quemado, NM to Hwy 40. Anything I should know other than it looks like a very lonely road.
Thx.

It is, but it is a nice road. I got gas in Show Low and got fuel at the junction there at I40.

Just another typical rural road in NM.

Leaving from Phoenix and wanting to stay off Hwy 40 as much as possible would you say going through Payson, Show Low and through Quemado north to Hwy 40 to Taos in one day would take the same amount of time as heading north to Flagstaff to hit Hwy 40 then east?

Not really...40 is a 75 MPH road...most of that way is 65 or less. The ride is a nice one for a change of scenery. I took the route on my way to Albuquerque to see the end of the iron butt really.
