i have a 2010 with 15k miles on it. i bought new last june. since day one it has ghost shifted, but felt normal immediately.

the delimma:

saturday i changed the oil, used rotella t6 10-40, this was the second time for this oil. headed home from work, found an open road and nailed it. quickly going to the red line, shift, red line, shift, hit 4th gear. 1/2 second later it slammed back into third on its own and back to 4th. scared the crap out of me. ( i was on a big right hand sweeper ).

now it seems, and it may just be my imagination, but it seems that it shifts alot rougher than it did. clanks harder when engaging, and just all around shifting different.

should i do anything? should i change oil ? nothing?

T.I.A.

The wife and I were coming home last night about 8:45. It was getting dark but not full dark yet. We were on a hilly two lane road and were on high alert because we had already spotted several deer. We were cresting a hill when coming the other way was a slow moving tractor pulling a trailer and in our lane a car attempting to pass the tractor. I braked very hard and moved to the edge of the road and we all passed each other three wide on a two lane road. As all this was going on I was more worried about the SUV behind me running me over when I was braking.

My new bike (Road Glide Ultra) has ABS and I believe that enabled me to brake so hard and move to the edge at the same time. My wife was really upset at the time and I hope it doesn't scare her so bad she is afraid to get back on the bike with me. We have been riding together since 1973 and this is as close as we have come to crashing.

I don't know if there is anything to be learned from this except I just needed to vent a little. Everyone be careful out there, they are out to kill us!

Winter has arrived and guess who has come calling.
Chewed up the seat, left hand passenger grip and a coolant hose on the right near the radiator.
I got it out this morning and saw the seat and the grip. I started it up and it was leaking coolant. ^&%$^%$SBAFBD#%#^%$*&$!!!!!
I took it down to the dealer and they will pull off the plastics and check for other damage.
I guess if there is a bright side to this my insurance advises I am covered.

Due to the signed up number of folks, SMRI announces a few JOB OPENINGS.
Ride Leaders- Responsible for leading new and old riders on roads not normally used by the public. Plenty of chances to advance to 'D*mn Good Rider Leader' if you already know a little route for the people. Must be able to determine beforehand the speed quality of the group as a whole. Must be patient. Must be able to think about what it would be like if you rode to a group gathering somewhere you've never been. Riding that far only to ride on crowded roads would leave a sour note. Help out and have somebody go home and brag about the great ride they went on and never would have found those roads if not for the guy who led you on them. Contact others on the site or post that you need some help on posible rides and get one together. Doesn't have to be 5 states just some curvess and scenery that you know of, have ridden several times. Might be a little old to you but remember the feelings you had the first time you went that way. Give that feeling to the new riders. Speaking from experience, I post ahead of time my speed for my rides. This will give everybody a chance to join in at some level. Fast hates Slow and Slow fears Fast. That's fine just get the 'like minded' folks together on a ride even if it means you might have to Slow down off your pace just a little. You'd be surprised as to how harmless that is. If 'You're The Man' is what you like, then lead a ride of like minded riders on a ride. You'll hear,You're The Man' several times. I know I like to hear that and I don't even scrape a peg. Now if I took peg scrapers, I'd hear,"What's Your Problem?":lol:

We're traveling out West and I've noticed the tempature guage climbing above normal (for my bike). On my bike ('06) normal is just below the half mark. Since we've hit Arizona I've noticed a couple of times the temp guage getting up to the next mark above the half way mark. I've also experienced the temp getting way high (up to the last tick mark below red) when climbing steep mountain passes.

When do you pull over and let it cool down? We're headed in to some hot areas on this trip, Death Valley for one.
