Someone posted a coupon from Harbor Freight that he had and had used to purchase the Tag Along trailer for only 279.00. I copied that coupon even though it had expired on 12-31-10. Then I went to the local Harbor Freight store. I planned to show someone who worked there what that coupon looked like and ask them if coupons like that show up very often and how I could get me one so I could buy that trailer at a 120.00 discount. The guy at the store looked at me for a moment (I thought he'd say something like wait your turn etc.), and he said, do you want that trailer at that price. And he sold it to me for the discount price. I didn't say another word.

The trailer is in the back of my pickup, in my garage. So I think, now, I can begin to believe that he really did sell it to me even though I had an expired coupon.

Thanks to whoever posted that coupon.

If anyone else tries this little stunt please let me know if it works or not.

Happy riding,

Greg

Greg,

I posted this in another thread today.

I think you are referring to the coupon I posted from my Insider Track Club membership. Actually, I think a lot of folks could probably do like you, the store folks can actually treat your price as a rain check and honor it at the discretion of the local store staff.

For the price, you can't beat it. Mine is assembled now but I would take some time to make some slight modifications. I replaced some bolts, etc., some of those others will shear fairly easily.

Tag Along

Thanks for your message and for attaching that coupon. I was totally shocked when the guy at HF offered to sell the trailer to me for the much lower price.

I'd like to take your advice on the changes you did to your trailer. Would you mind sharing some specific information about those changes sometime?

One thing I haven't looked at yet, does the Tag Along have only one leaf spring on each side? If it has more what do you think about taking all but one out?

Thanks for your time.

Greg,

take a look at the customer reviews at this link. You'll get a good idea of the possible modifications.

Greg,
I hope you got my PM that I sent you earlier. You will like the HF trailer. It's almost identical to my Piggy Backer, but without the cooler rack, rear bumper, chrome hitch and a couple of other minor details. And you paid considerably less. :yes1: I like the gas struts that hold the lid open on the HF trailer. The Piggy doesn't have those.

Be sure to completely flush out the grease that comes in the wheel bearings and repack them with a good grade of water proof grease. Bearing Buddies are a great addition also.

Now it's just a matter of customizing the little trailer. Have fun, it will serve you well for many miles!

Lost parts...

I got one of these a few days back, and there were a lot of parts missing, and I figured I would put it together and let Harbor Freight send me the missing items. To my absolute horror, they told me that I will have to pack up the trailer and send it back and they would send me a new one. On continued conversation, I learned that they don't have parts for this trailer, and the only way to get the two snap latches I needed was to exchange the ENTIRE TRAILER!!!!! There are NO parts available, and while the trailer is nice enough, I am very sadly in the predicament of somehow building my own latches or letting Harbor Freigh try again to get me a complete trailer.

If anyone knows how to get parts, I would be very happy to know it...

My wifes brother-in-law bought one and it had a cracked fender when we opened the box. The store told him he had to contact the manufacture. He got the address from the paperwork in the box and sent a letter. Six months later he received the fender.

A friend of mine got his with broken lights, the store clerk told him to bring it in for an exchange. He asked for the mamger and got him to open one up get the parts he needed and count it as an exchange. I would try that, seems like they could open one and get the parts you need and send that one back.

edsetsdude, you may have gotten a dud for a CS rep. I called Harbor Freight Customer Service told them my model number of trailer and the number and part name from the instruction/owners manual. They sent me 4 new latches for less than $14.00 shipped. Call them again at 800-444-3353. Tell them part #12890. They also called it in the description as "66771 SNAP LATCH 2 PK" They come in pairs for $2.99 a pair. I ordered 2 pair (4 latches) for $13.33 with shipping and tax. They sent mine out on 3-19-13 and I received them around 3 days later by USPS

To those building the Tag Along trailer:

1) Replace the 'grease' with REAL grease.
2) Use 2 oz. Dyna Beads in each tire - don't use more than 20 psi
3) Remove all but the main leaf of the spring
4) Slip a piece of
garden hose over the end of the spring to keep it quiet.
5) MOST important - lengthen the tongue about 24"

This is a link to the build that I did......you might find it useful during your build.

Tongue lenght

Yes, lengthen the tongue! It won't back for dirt with a short tongue and sometimes will wag its tongue at you! I had one too and the springs went clunk-clunk over bumps. The mods are easy and you'll then love your 'cheap' trailer. So many unique toppers can be created for it, have seen a bunch over the road.

It looks like a copy of the piggybacker I have.
If you put real grease in the bearings it should last you for many yrs and thousands of miles.
