First thank you for the answers to my other thread. Secondly I now have a spare rear wheel and am ready to give the DS a real try. If it works for me I will probably be your biggest supporter. NOW THE QUESTION-----Houston and south Texas area DSers-Where did you get your rear tire mounted. My Michelin/BStone tires are on order

Come on in Laen, the waters on the darkside are fine...

I took my Michelin in to get it mounted today at National Tire and Battery (NTB). No stem needed, did want them to balance and the when I took the wheel in, it did not have a tire on it. All they had to do was mount the new tire that I had bought from Simpletire. Left it with them for a couple of hours. When I came back they had waited because they didn't know what direction the wheel was turning and the Alpin PA-3 is a directional tire. I told them it was on the left wheel and showed them which direction I wanted it mounted. Five minutes later it was done. The manager carried it to my car and told me no charge! I guess he felt bad that it wasn't done when I got there. I gave him a tip for the tech that did it and was on my way. They did a nice job and didn't make a mark on the powder coated wheel.

I normally have Discount tire mount my tires but they were closed today. But they will also do it for you too and pretty cheap. If they ask you any questions, tell them that the wheel is going on a trailer.

Beware of Wal-mart. Their machines do not have the no-mar shoes on the tire machines and can mess up your wheels. Any place that work on or sell the bigger chrome wheels will have the proper equipment.
Good luck...

Hey all

Hello fellow Houstonians.
have had my wing about a month or so, 05 white with about 84K miles.
I am looking at replacing the tires shortly and looking back at ALL the posts there are many thoughts.]
what i am asking is with this Texas Heat, and weather, Visiting the 3 sisters in the hill country etc, what tires should i get?
I am going to replace the front first as it is about done. then the rear later. We are going to big bend next month so needing soon.
Is there a place i can get what the majority picks local? will they install, etc. IS it ok to replace the front first with the CT before the Rear?
It seems that the Kuhmo is a good choice for the rear but what about the front?
I am in the Cypress area.
thanks
Michael

Conroe Area

On my 4th CT, best one was the Goodyear Ultragard (they don't make it anymore) and currently running a Dunlop Wintersport, all 195/55's. All stick well, am running the G709 Bridgestone on front, but am thinking of going to the G721, not getting much wear out of the 709.

Also know 2 places that'll install them in our area if anyone interested.

PM me if you need any info.

MAybe I can get Wild West in Katy(closer) they own Cycle Shack. Thanks

MAybe it will be Walmart with my custom trailer(hint)
I take it you discovered Wild West's opinion on DS equipped bikes. They won't touch a bike with a BMT.

I saw your post on the Alpine tire, glad you got it on and liked it!

Where abouts in Houston are you?

EDIT - Forgot to answer the question...

I get mine mounted at Discount Tire. Just take the wheel in and they don't even raise an eyebrow.

Which Discount Tire? Asked them about it (it was a Conroe location, don't remember which one, we have 3 of them here) and they told me they didn't do m/c tires. Fastlane Cycles in Conroe (same guy that owns Drifters Icehouse in Richards owns Fastlane) will do it, no questions asked.

Had Centramatics on my 02, noticed no difference between them and Dyna-beads. Had nothing against them, but won't spend the money again when the beads are cheaper.

Hope this helps....

The Discount Tire at Eldridge and Briar Forest on the west side of Houston. I took the wheel in without the bike.
