Well I have the beads in the wheels with my new tires. No weights are on the rim but I feel a vibration at speed. It doesnt happen every time, just from time to time I will get a vibration and it gets real bad as I speed up.
Have checked the wheel installation and I did install correctly. Is this something with the Beads? Has anyone else felt this?

Perhaps that ceramic kitty litter has clumped with moisture or the bad vibes are related to some other malady.

Could be an out of round tire?? I used to use the little white beads. They always worked well, and as for tire lube and all that, a few of them might stick to that for a bit, but time the tire is two days old, they have beat all that down. I have never seen them clumped or stuck together when a tire is removed.

I would suspect an out of round tire, no balancing means will cure that.

You might try adding a few more beads. You may not have enough in the tire to completely balance the tire.

I heard that if any water or rim lube leaks inside tire when mounting tire this will cause beads to stick inside tire & beads won't be free to balance tire properly.
Know that there is just funny lol. Take a few Dyna beads and throw them in a cup of water they will not clump and than take them out in you hand and try to get them to clump good luck won't happen Nice try though:thumbup:

Could be that they don't work.

Remove the tiny beads and replace with 9 golf balls and 3 marbels.

I will remove if they are the problem. I want to give this a chance, and the out of round tire did cross my mind but it is intermittent and that is what causes me pause.
I will get some more and try adding them to the Cobras.

I had the same problem. The vibration would come and go, sometimes it would dissapear as I rode or I may come to a stop and take off again and it would be gone. I thought the beads were clumping or something. Well I could not take it anymore and dismounted the tire to find that the tire had a 1/4" separation bump across the width of the tire. Avon Cobras. :cus: What I think was happening is sometimes the beads could not get over the raised area and were building up causing the out of balance. I now have a set of bridgstones and it has never been this smooth. I even reused the same beads.

Fill the tire with nitrogen......yea that's the ticket.....seriously, take that crap out of your tires and balance it the conventional way.....its much safer too!!!

Safer ? :shrug::roll:

I used the beads for 2 years and thru many tires and never had a problem.

I'm with Kit on this one, probably an out-of-round or otherwise bad tire.

they seem to help on long smooth straight roads..

...but they seem to get "upset" and momentarily make things worse on bumpy roads or spirited roads/rides.

Also, I cannot understand or visualize how they "stay put" under heavy braking (deacceleration )...
... I don't believe they do.
(think of a bus filled with passengers, some standing,
and the bus driver slams on the brakes ...)

.. for me, a very inexperienced twisty rider wanna be, they seem to make the bike more squirrely entering/exiting in tight curves
... I attribute that to the beads moving around under heavy deacceleration and acceleration.

..nothing scientific,
just my impressions after 10k miles with them.

Did you reuse the rubber valve stem or replace it with a heavy metal one? You may need 3 or 4 oz of beads if you did not counterbalance the metal valve stem with a lead weight.

Also put the bike up on the center stand and check the tire wobble etc. visually.

The "heavy metal one' ?
Perhaps you are mistaken when suggesting that the valve stems are "heavy" and refering to metal valve stems that go onto Caterpillar T-282B dump trucks.
The stems that are most commonly used on GL1800's are 90* stems & 13mm in size.
I just weighed 3 of these (I only have 3) to obtain an average weight (metal 13mm stems) with caps = average weight of 8 grams!

many of us have replaced the OEMs with all metal "patchboy" stems...
they are quite a bit heavier.

I weighed three stems with caps to get an average weight.
I am not disputing your claim at all, since I have not weighed metal "patchboy stems".
Therefore for future reference I am curious as to what "quite a bit heavier" translates to in actual weight?

I have them on all my wheels
(5 of them)
... with no weights on the wheels,
the patchboy's settle at the bottom of my balancer
..

on the road now... will weigh some for you when I get home..
(if I remember )

Ok I just got back from a road trip to Naples yesterday. 351 miles with the same results. Sometimes would be there other times it woudl not. I tried taking off slowly like grandpa, and also quickly like Joe Rocket. Did not seem to matter. Also had experience on new asphalt and again vib/no vib. If its there when I stat it almost never goes away. If its not it almost never appears until I stop. I will check the internal cavity. I do have the patchboys installed and this was the first set with them. I will add some more and see if that helps. Thanks again for all the tips and just so you know I love the grip of the Cobras. Almost makes me nauseous when I think how confident I am getting and then remember I cant do all the bike can.....
