...I had, repeat had a TOM TOM. Hit a bump in the road, **POOF** gone. Pick-up behind me sealed it's doom. So any way, went to Wally World and picked up a Garmin nuvi. Now to keep this one from being like the other one, (wow, from easy rider.. don't bogart...) any way I'm lookin' for a mount that would take the act of GOD to get the GPS off the bike. Well maybe a key would work. Any suggestions???

Yoda makes a few that would secure it pretty well. Might cost you $40 or $50 for the mount but might be worth it to get it where you want it and keep it there.

The other thing you can do (and what I do with my smart phone and mount) is use the power cord as a tethering cord. Take a zip tie and make the power cord loop around the mount past where the windshield suction cup mount is and then zip tie the cord and the plastic together. That way if the suction cup fails, the device should still be there but hanging by the cord.

Check with YODA, he makes a very strong mount for gps. He is also a board sponsor. yodasunsheilds.

If you have a flat surface, or flat faced mount, really does not have to be fancy, plain ole industrial velcro works well.

A two inch by three inch square of that I think will hold a truck. Can be bought at Lowes. Have used that on radar equipment for a long time.

I think Kit's solution would be among the cheapest options. You weren't clear if you lost the mount, or just the GPS. If the mount is still there, and you just had to replace the GPS, I would go the industrial velcro. It's strong enough that you have to make a serious effort to remove it, but it can be removed. Other option would be high strength double-sided tape.

Thank ya all.....

.....The Velcro idea sounds very interesting... Although I do have a RAM mount but need the attachment to lock the GPS on the mount.... Thanks..

I use a Ram mount that the Nuvi snaps into. It's held very tight and securely in place but not protected against theft. At night when stopped at a motel I pull the power plug out of the back and snap the Nuvi out of the mount and take it in with me.

I bought my Gold wing in Utah and rode it back to Tennessee with my Garmin Nuvi "suction cupped" to my Windbender windshield. I tied a shoe string to it and the bike in case it fell off...never did. When I rode to Alaska, I had installed a "farkle shelf" made by Firecreek Accessories. (They make the Windbender). In 7000 miles, the suction cup only came loose once and the tether kept it from falling to the ground. (I think it actually stayed on the shelf?) When it rained I put a Zip Lock sandwich bag over the Nuvi from the top down. I could still read the GPS through the Zip Lock bag and my GPS never got wet! Who needs to speed the extra $500 for a motorcycle GPS?

ram products make a good one
Ditto. Go to gpscity.com and look up the appropriate ram mount. I used on on my '93 and '96 for years without any problem at all. It puts the GPS where you need it and keeps it rock solid yet comes off when you need it to (like in New Mexico).

I've got the Garmin zumo 660 ... I used the ball mount and when I first got it was concerned that the thing would fall off ..cause it's so easy to remove ..but after thousands of miles any many bumps ..hasn't budged ..I know longer worry about it

i have had a tom tom "rider" made for motorcycles.....for 7 years now!!!!!... It comes with a tether cord so it doesn't go bouncing down the highway like an empty beer can thrown out of a car window......! Yup...!! I have also seen that too..........
