Over the years the "favorite" tires on these posts seem to change. Two years ago I put on a Pirelli Euforia run flat and that was one of the top listed tires then. I really have liked this tire and I still have about 1/2 the tread left. Since then I have seen several other tires listed as favorites, like the Michilen Alpens, etc. I'm not questioning anyones choice of car tire; but I'm curious. When you get a tire that you really, really, really like; why do you change to a different one instead of just getting a new one that is the same????

BECAUSE if you never experiment a little bit you never know if what you are using is truly the best suited to your needs,, Besdies even as good as the ALPIN is IT would NEVER EVER last me more than one season.. I am just glad to have finally found a tire that has lasted all the way through at least one of my longer rides without having to schedule a pitstop halfway through

Hello to fellow Lincoln'ite, (we should get together with the wife's and do a dinner ride sometime)
I have run the dunnie wintersport and loved it, however I am now running the Michelin Alpine and love it even more, it has a taller profile and I think it sticks just a little better.
My Alpine is due to be changed soon so I will probably try the Yokohama RF next from the reviews that I have read from the Darkside forum just because I have learned so much from the others that ride far more miles and ride far more challenging roads that us flatlanders can even imagine

P.S. Don't be surprised that this thread don't get moved by the moderators to the sub-forum (Darkside Riders) that you have to sign into the sub-forum section that I recommend you read as well ;)

People change tires because the tire makers discontinue them or they become unavailable because of the season.

My favorite tire was the Pirelli. I could spin it up but it was very predictable. I can spin up the Miclhelin Alpin but it does not seem to quite as predictable. The Prielli felt more like a MT to me than than the Michelin does.

But the Pirelli is tough to find now. I beleive it has been discontinued.

People try new tires as the old ones are harder to come by and new ones are always hitting the market. I love my Michelin Alpin but with a spare set of wheels I could do a side by side comparison with the Yoko ZP. At the time I bought the Yoko, it was not available in my home town (even to order it) and had to order it on line, it was that new. I hope the Yokohama Avid Envigor ZPS Run Flat will be around for many years, but I do have that spare set of wheels to keep comparing.
Bob.

Thanks for the response. Where do you buy the tires and get them installed?

That Pirelli is no longer made. I have one and it is great, but no longer available.
Those of us that have a favorite tire (mine is a Dunlop Winter Sport 175/60R16 RF also discontinued) that is discontinued are very disappointed.

I am currently using a GoodYear Assurance Triple Tread. It currently has 20,000 miles plus, and I expect another 5,000 miles at least. When I replace this tire I will use a Bridgestone MC tire because when I got this 1800 the MC tire was wore out and needed replaced so I went to Dark side immediately (this is the second CT the first used a Run flat). So I'm curious as to using a round tire vs. flat. But after ward I will most likely go back to a GoodYear Assurance Triple Tread.

I look at a tire and find out as much as I can about it and give it a try if I like it. I try to run tires no one else has tried because that's what I like to do.

No longer available?

Which is why it's nice that there are plenty who choose to share their knowledge with the rest of us...like a couple of years ago when the Pirelli was discontinued, and the Alpin became another forum favorite.
