I tried to activate my XM radio with the weather radar option today. When I gave them the radio ID they told me that the radio was not weather capable.

I got the ID I gave them by going to the menu, setup, XM, and the ID was given on the screen. While I had them on the phone I went to the bike again to confirm the ID number was correct (it was)

I have a 2010 wing with the Nav option.

They will not let me subscribe with the weather radar option unless I give them an ID that is weather capable.

Any ideas on where the problem is? Where do I go from here?

Thank you,

Bill

It must really be spotty...I have 5 radios now in various vehicles and one for classical music that I gave my mom (yes I blocked the adult channels on her radio..she's 85), but I have always gotten everything I needed very quickly, except really good discounts. I have always had a good experience with them. Just lucky I guess...I would have given a worse review to a couple of other companies.

FYI...I was very grateful to have the weather on my Zumo 665 last month. I was on the road for over 3 weeks and the weather sucked...but at least I had an idea what was what. And the XM channels worked fine with the antenna on the far right side of the dash.

And I find it very handy to toggle back and forth between weather and XM music screen, while using the Honda NAV unit for the mapping. I think using one unit for everything would take my eyes off the road even more.

Update

XM is very frustrating to deal with!

One idiot customer service person that did not know how to find the door so she could leave and one that had such a noisy headset I could not understand her.

Then..........

I called 1-866-635-2349 and they tell me that my radio (based on the Radio ID number) does not have weather capability. I talked to 2 customer service people a supervisor and a supervisor's supervisor. They stuck by their story. They also were united in telling me that my new wing did not have an introductory offer associated with it.

I then called 1-800-967-2346. The customer service person at that number tells me that I do have an introductory offer and she would be happy to turn it on. It is for the radio only. She did and it is now working. She also tells me that based on my Radio ID number that I do not have the capability to display weather and on top of that it is not offered in the introductory package. When I told her that was the reason to subscribe she told me she would have their technical people call me within 7 to 10 business days to solve the problem.

About this time I was ready to strangle someone.................

There doesn't appear to be a way around this so I guess I should be happy with free radio until/if I get their call. At the end of the seven days I will be back on the phone. I can be persistent as hell when it comes to something like this.

If any of you have any other ideas on how I can get them to turn on the weather function please let me know.

I will post here if there is any change.

Thanks,

Bill

READ POST NUMBER 4! GEEZ!!!

I called XM a minute ago, asked the rep to view that page and then said, "when I get the ID, will you have a problem activating the NavWeather" and he said "Nope. No Problem!"

This should be a very simple fix!

News to me.

You can indeed. And NavTraffic has a weather information section, although I've heard it is not as good as NavWeather.
This is news to me, I had the full pkg with Weather then they cut it off and when I called was told that Weather wasn't offered anymore.
Thanks for posting your problem and everyone else adding info, I am glad I seen the Topic.

I really depended on the NavWeather and used it all of the time. I will try to get it restarted and much luck to everyone else too. Farmer :coffee1:

Does anyone know if you can have just weather / traffic and not an XM Radio Subscription? I have a Zumo 665 and honestly I am not a fan of their radio and I think have been fraudulent in every dealing with them to the point of complaining to my AG Office only to get a response of we have heard a lot of complaints but the company is completely unresponsive (look them up on the BBB Site and you will see pretty much the same thing).

I get quoted one price and ask them specifically if I will be charged anything else, any other fees or anything and they insist I won't then I get my bill and sure enough instead of being charge $79 for the year I got charge $120 something due to the Royalty Fee. In hind sight I should have just disputed it through my CC. Although one of my credit cards wouldn't even process a transaction from XM they said they get way to many fraudulent charges from them and will not do business with them. I suppose I should have listened to them huh?

I tried to almost a month to deal with it and just gave up. Now my year is up and I will NOT pay for their music but would like the weather.

Anyway I love the weather, I've live in Boston and I've never once in a year of the Traffic Service seen a single traffic alert anywhere / anytime. The weather is the only thing I would keep on this.

http://www.siriusxm.com/navweather/pricing

XM NavWeather Pricing

XM Radio Only $12.95 monthly
XM Radio + XM NavWeather $16.94 monthly
XM Radio + XM NavWeather + XM NavTraffic $19.95 monthly
XM NavWeather Only $9.95 monthly
Yes I searched their site and found that myself... I called back and found out that they canceled only my Traffic and Weather and not my XM Radio Service then I was told that I have an "XM Radio" account which is different than a "Sirius XM" Account (are you freaking serious). I now have to wait for them to cancel my account on the 12th then I can call back and add just the "Data Services" they said it will be $9.95 a month for the Weather and only $3.99 for the traffic. If I do them yearly I will get a 1 month discount, if I do 2 years I will get a two month discount.

I will do monthly and cancel it in the winter and reactivate it in the spring. This is the worst company ever, I've now talked to 5 different people and got 5 different answers all within an hour and a half. Now to see what happens on the 12th. Wish me luck, I bet anyone I am charged something.

Call XM back and talk to a different rep, and you'll get a different answer everytime. Their customer service is the worst I've ever experienced, anywhere.

:agree:

If you plan on keeping your bike for three years or more you may try to get a lifetime subscription.

Well I called back today and I got someone that actually did help me. Now I just need to wait and see if I get billed the right amount (which has never happened yet).

I dropped the Radio Service and went with the Data Only Services which they charged me only $77 for the year which honestly I couldn't believe since they say that the services are $9.99 per month for the Weather and $3.99 per month for the traffic. That would be $13.98 per month and the yearly is only $6.42. I verified that it got activated while I was on the phone so here's hoping I get billed the right amount. I bit the bullet and offered to pay the additional $2 per year for them to invoice me and not hit my card automatically.

I will keep you posted when I get my bill... Wish me luck =)

xm weather

When I bought my 09 navi and went to activate for my free trial both xm radio and weather where turned on. Actully I didn't know about the weather feature till then. When I went to activate it the next year I had to tell them it was on a Goldwing as they didn't know they offered their service on Goldwings. After 2 years it actaully shows on my account as a Goldwing but every year it's a new hassle. If I didn't like the radar feature so much I wouldn't even bother, MP3 covers all the music problems. Doubt they will be in business for many more years with the lousy service they offer.

Last Sept I called and had them suspend my acct until further notice because if you cancel, they charge a reactivation fee.

Comical thing is that even though I haven't been charged, everything has been working until TODAY !

Well, the seven days is up and, of course, there was no call from the XM technical people.

I called again today 1-800-967-2346 and got transferred to the technical people. They insist that based on my radio's ID that my radio does not have the capability to display weather radar. My telling them that it does and is an OEM radio installed by the Honda factory in a Goldwing falls on deaf ears.

After over 30 minutes on the phone with them and a supervisor later I made no progress. They do not have the ability to authorize weather radar for my radio's ID.

The phone call ended with them telling me to talk with my dealer (which I have already done).

I called my dealer and of course they have no idea. They are going to call their Honda Goldwing rep and see what they can find out.

Stay tuned I'll keep posting as things progress.

I got the same response recently when I called to get the weather feature on my 376c fixed. It took me 4 calls to XM before I got someone who didn't swear that the weather feature wasn't available on my unit. I spent at least 3 hours on the phone with them before I found someone who had an actual brain.

XM customer service should be used as an example to all other companies how NOT to run a business. Even the government isn't this bad.

SUCCESS

Boy, I never want to deal with XM again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After my last post I rode in to the dealer that sold me the Wing. They had no experience with the weather function on a Wing but were more than willing to help.

First they called their Honda rep. He told them that Honda had heard many complaints about people being told that their radio was not weather capable. He assured my dealer that the problem was with XM and to just keep trying (someone else up this thread told me the same thing).

Now, I have called XM at least 7 times. Each time I was told my radio was not compatible (based on the radio ID number) or after a long long period on hold (more than 15 minutes) I hung up.

The dealers first call to XM resulted in him being told the radio was not compatible with the weather feature that XM offers. He explained he was the dealer and that the radio was weather capable. The service rep put him on hold and after 30 minutes we again hung up. No love from XM.

The dealer again called XM. Again he was told the radio was not compatible. When he explained that he was a dealer, he had just been put on permanent hold, and he wanted help right then without being put on hold the rep told him he would transfer the dealer to a technical person. We were again on hold for about 5 minutes. The person that came on the line did understand motorcycles and after being told twice that no it was not a Harley it was a Glodwing he said he could fix the problem. He said the weather would be activated on my bike within 15 minutes. We went out to the bike, turned it on, and there was the weather!!!!!!!

This all took the dealer over 3 hours (I was not charged for this). I have nothing but good things to say about I-90 Motorsports in Issaquah, WA. When there is a problem that sure is the way I want my dealer to respond! Thanks I-90.

I have nothing but bad things to say about XM. Their customer service reps are ignorant and when they are presented with a problem they can't solve and you won't hang up they just put you on permanent hold.

I'll start another thread on how the XM weather works on a wing. I have a question.

I recently had a problem and was finally transfered to a Tech lady in the US. After the problem was resolved she asked if there was anything else she could help with. I told her to tell the higher ups that they had better get better customer service reps that are in the US. She said "Sir, we're an international company !". I replied "Then when someone in frikkin India calls for help have someone in India answer the damn phone, but if the call is from the US, then have someone in the frikkin US answer !!! She started laughing so hard she could barely speak. She then politely said thanks for the suggestion and hung up. :D

Successfully activated XM Traffic & XM Weather on 2009 Goldwing

Given the other experiences shared on this thread, I thought I might share my recent experience on activating XM Traffic and XM Weather on my 2009 Wing.

The first call to Sirius/XM was unsuccessful, as the female representative said that my XM device was for radio subscription only. I waited a couple of days, read through the threads in this post and called back.

This time I reached a guy, Moamen, with Sirius/XM who said no problem and would have me going in just a few moments. Sure enough, my XM Traffic and Weather were up and running within 10 minutes.

I told him about my previous experience and the same experiences shared by others on this forum and said I would say a good word on his behalf.

If anyone should receive a negative experience in the future, please have them ask to speak to Moamen.

XM

That crap company has a full scale "Monopoly" attitude and they do not give $*!t about getting new customers and are perfectly OK with loosing a few existing ones. They know they are the only game in town for that system and people will put up with with a large amount of crap because they want the service at any cost, monetary or or not. Not enough of us has told them to shove it.

I am still waiting for my 3 free months that came with my purchase of a 2010. The XM had never been turned on except they remotely turned it on a month ago for a day to clear out the evidence of never being turned on.

I would rather give all of my money to that Prince in that e-mail promising some of "his" fortune than give a dime to XM!
