Hello from Southwest Florida. First time Wing owner, never thought I'd own one, seen many in my travels but honestly never paid much attention to them. After we (Mrs. TByrd and I) retired our mc trips started taking us farther and farther from home. After a recent trip to Savannah Mrs. Tbyrd announced she (we) would not be doing any more long distance trips unless something was done to improve passenger comfort. Not much could be done with current ride so after much research decided on a GW. Let the shopping begin! Decided on an '07 with 22K miles, looked brand new not a mark on it anywhere but the owner was a bit vague on his maintenance. Responses were "recently" or "not too long ago" with no miles or dates attached. Reached a deal, rode it home (150 miles) and changed plugs, oil, and rear gear oil. A week later we were on our way to Tennessee. Two thumbs up from the passenger and rider. It's really great to spend a long day in the saddle and not feel beat up and wind burned and the end. Next project - air filter, wish me luck.

I also have a 2007. I just returned from a 6500 mile trip from Virginia to the southwest and central Rockies. Now that I have passed the 30,000 mile mark, I have the air filter project coming up too.

There are very many helpful people and subjects on this website. I feel it is the best site for GL1800 riders. There are a few cranks who do nothing but post insults and non-helpful stuff, but they are really in the minority.

Good luck with your bike. It sounds like you are happy on the stock saddle which is great. My butt just didn't line up and I had to change saddles or sell the bike.

And, Good luck on the filter!

Welcome TByrd! I've had mine (ours) a little over a year now and it can't be beat for 2 up comfort IMHO! Check out the Fla. sub-forum for rides within the state and the Tech forums contain great info!
Hope to see you on the road!

Welcome TByrd and Mrs. TByrd,
I to ride longer rides and my wife wouldn't do much because it just was not comfortable for her. I got my 08 Wing last Sept. and we both love it. I know she is now comfortable because she will fall asleep while we are riding, she never did that before. Enjoy.

Congratulations and hope you enjoy for a long time. Funny, one of the previous posters talks about his wife falling asleep -
my wife does the same thing on the Wing :eek:4:

I bought the Wing because I had the same issue as you - she couldnt ride for a long period of time without major discomfort - even after I bought a Mustang seat, passenger floor boards, arm rests to try to improve her comfort. I should have sold the bike before the upgrades and bought the Wing - oh well, hindsight is always 20/20. Now long trips are no problem.

Welcome

Welcome fellow Floridian and congrats on the new wing. You have the good fortune to be amongst one of the largest concentrations of wing riders in the country. Beginning in the fall and into the spring, we have averaged one RTE (Ride To Eat) per week. On our short notice rides, typically a couple of dozen riders show up. On our regularly scheduled rides, 50 to 70 attend. As an added bonus, you and your wife are automatically eligible for membership in the Florida Prowlers, the friendliest bunch you'll ever meet. Our mission is to seek out new roads and restaurants, looking for the best food and service, boldly going where no bikers have gone before. Send me a PM if you're interested in joining (free of course). Check out the Florida board for details and again...WELCOME.

Greetings from the Shenandoah Valley! Congrats on your new experience with unmatched touring comfort!

BTW - I'm a huge fan of SW FLA... Boca Grande specifically. We find a way to make it down at least every other year.
