Adjust Throttle slack HOW

I've got too much slack on my throttle, '08 Wing. I've adjusted the top adjuster, but it doesn't do much, so need to do the other cable adjustment somewhere inside the shelter I presume.

Can you get to it without removing the shelter and adjust? Any ideas before I start on this, and save myself some time. Appreciate your thoughts.

Don't know for sure about not removing the shelter. I guess if your hands are really small (midget) you might be able to do it.

Much easier with shelter off.

Be sure to re-adjust the top adjuster before you adjust the bottom. If you don't you won't have any top adjustment left.

Good luck and take your time.

You can get to the "other" adjuster from under the bike. Look up on the left side next to the frame neck. You will see the other throttle cable adjuster.

If you have long arms you can do it laying on your back looking up under the fairing.

FYI... Turn the top one all the way in before adjusting the lower one.

I adjusted my throttle just about a week ago. I was taking up the slack so that my cruise would set quicker. If you'll search, you will find the thread. All I did was follow the throttle lead down from the handle and tighten it. It doesn't take many turns on the barrel nut to take the slack out. I didn't take anything off to get to it. If I remember right it was on the left side of the triple tree.

Thanks Guys

I've been reading over so many posts, and got frustrated with cruise lag adjustment, throttle lag adjustment and what is what.

I'll do the under the shelter thing tomorrow, when it's cooler. Was 100 degrees here to day in WI. I've got long arms, no problem, as long as I can get at it.

thanks to all.

I sit down on the floor beside the left fork to easily access the MAJOR throttle adjuster barrel nut. First shorten the MAJOR barrel nut to gain slack. Then inspect the cable in the area of the MAJOR adjuster to be sure it is not kinked. If kinked or in a bind, apply cable tires to remount in a relaxed postion. Next, I lengthen the MINOR adjuster until it comes apart exposing the cable and I give the cable a shot of light Tefelon based lube (Triflow) and also shoot some back toward the throttle housing. Rethread that MINOR adjuster to its full short postion. Lengthen the MAJOR to get the amount of free board you prefer or just a tad more (for me, the less the better so long as steering full motion does not rasie idle). You can fine tune with the MINOR adjuster.

As an aside, I can not see how the throttle adjsutment effects the cruise function; but it apparently does. IF you loosen the cruise adjuster before setting the throttle play and then go back and set the cuise, the overshoot and undershoot of the cruise seems to be nil or minimal.
