Tires near the Gap

I'm halfway through my trip. We're staying in Wears Valley. When I left Jacksonville, I swore my Metzler's were still at about 50%

We ran the North Goergia mountains pretty hard yesterday, and all the sudden, I'm down to the wear bars and I'm sliding the front end around a lot more than I'm comfortable with. Lesson learned. It seems the second half of the tire life goes much faster than the first.

We're planning on running way up the BRP tomorrow, which is good because we'll have to slow down a good bit. I'm wondering if anyone know's the best people to call about maybe getting some new shoes tomorrow. I'd really like a new set of Stones. It's a long way home, and even though I know I'll pay a pretty sizable premium getting them on the road instead of ordering online like normal, it would sure give me some piece of mind for the last couple days and the drive home.

I'm going to call Wheeler's first thing in the morning. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks...

There's a motorcycle shop on Hwy 74 (Smoky Mountains Expressway) just south of Waynesville, and a couple of miles north of the BRP. I think it was Waynesville Cycle Center or similar, maybe Carolina Cycle Center now.

I would try MR in Asheville. Exit 50 off of Highway 40 south about a mile. 828-277-8600.
This is where I would take it. It is only about a mile or so off the BRP. I had a front tire go bad on me a couple of years ago while traveling the BRP. They treated me right. I was really impressed with their store. They even had cafe and grill in there main building. Really nice people.

If you are staying in Wears Valley this place is close. It is Volunteer Cycles and Trikes. Here is their website and contact info. http://www.volunteercyclesandtrikes.com/ A friend of mine needed a tire a couple yrs. ago and he went there and got really good service. Don't know about the price. I believe the shop is on the left at light 14.1 between Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.

:agree:

I've used them a couple of times with good results each time. They are fair and fast. Both times I used them was on a Saturday.....they still were able to get me in and out in a couple hours.

Ride safely.

Follow Up...

Well, I called Wheelers last week first. I've been to his shop and met him several times. But I heard his shop was busy busy, and I didn't get an answer.

Next I called the folks in Ashville. The guy in service was nice enough and promised to get me in and out quickly. But told me he only stocks E3's for my bike. Obviously, in a pinch I'd have been happy to have them, but...

Last, I called over to Volunteer Cycles and Trikes in Sevierville. I made it over there, unanounced, Friday morning about 10:30am. I'd made it through the trip but was worried about the tires getting me home. And, they had Bridgestones in stock.

They were absolutely better to deal with than I ever could have imagined. I rolled up at 10:30 and by 11:45 the stones were mounted and test ridden. I feel like their price was so reasonable, it wouldn't have been worth the savings to go about getting a new set any other way. Great folks and I highly recommend them. One way or another, they'll get more of my business. They have a showroom full of about every farkly you can imagine for the 1800 too...

So thanks for the recommendation, and I highly recommend them to anyone...
