I spoke to a service manager at a Honda dealership today and was told the following with regard to the GPS rebooting issue. They would like anyone who is experiencing this issue to call Honda Customer Service at 866-784-1870 and report it to them.

Honda is telling its dealers that they believe this is an isolated problem and only affects a limited number of bikes, so the only way you will ever get yours fixed is if you call Customer Service and let them know you have a problem.

The current method they are using to fix it involves taking the bike to a dealership and letting them remove the Nav unit in the trunk and then they will send it back to Honda and have it reprogrammed. Even though Garmin has identified a problem in the firmware and given Honda a way to fix it, it appears that the only way you will get the fix for yours is if you call the Honda Customer Service line and inform them that your GPS is rebooting and let them document it, and then take the bike to a dealership and have them remove it and send it back to to Honda.

My GPS has rebooted several times, but I can't "make-it-fail". I tried Fred's method, but still no reboot. It has even rebooted with just a single destination. My dealer says he is aware of the problem but he has to ride the bike for hours hoping for a failure. He complains because some owners have insisted the dealer reimburst them for the gas used to find the failure. He insists Honda won't reflash the unit unless he actually see's it reboot, and I don't want to ask him to lie about it. However, he has agreed to let me vidio the failure so he can ''see" the problem. So far, the GPS hasen't failed when the camera was available.

Just take a photo of the initial screen. That is the only indication I receive when it reboots in route. I happen to look down and can't navigate because I have to stop and press "Enter".

2012 fixed

I just copied a post here and handed it to the service manger, said they Honda knows about it so just send it to them to re flash firm ware to 2.50 and I will be Happy. Oh by the way I always tip my mechanic 20 bucks for lunch when he works on the Wing, this builds a great relationship so they are on your side about every warrantee matter. Regards Eldon

He is wrong. Honda can and will reflash it without duplicating the failure. I spoke the Honda Regional Rep, and they (Honda) know all about this failure, and they are reflashing them on a regular basis. He isn't talking to the right folks.

I'd suggest you call the 1-800 number in your manual and tell the folks in Customer Support about your reboot issue and that you need their help in working with your dealer. This is what I did, and they called my dealership and told them to remove the GPS and send it in. No testing was done on it at all to try to duplicate the failure, cause they already know it exists, and there is no reason to waste time doing that.

nav

I was told today that as of today the nav upgrade will be done by a service teck at local dealer. They have to watch a video that tells them how to hook up to nav and down load upgrade. I will keep everyone informed they are doing mine in the next couple of days

Good news! Looking forward to hear how this works out for you. I'm in the " it didn't do it for us on the road test boat " and I'm not going to keep taking it back for them to drive the bike around . It is a very intermittent problem, but always at the wrong time :eek:4:

Yes. System Software Version 2.20 is the original version with the reboot problem.

System Software Version 2.50 is the version that corrects the problem.
Here in the UK we're now using Software Version 2.60 and we've still got issues with it.
I used my bike on Sunday and when I tried to avoid a waypoint (because of heavy traffic) the unit started to recalculate several times and then froze.
When I eventually got it rebooted the recalculated route was almost 200miles longer than the original !!

Why cant we just have the option to turn OFF auto recalculate and have it 'Prompted' - just like on a Zumo. I always run my 660 with the recalculate turned OFF - this lets me go off route anytime I wish and when I rejoin the route it just picks me up and starts giving instructions again without any problem.

update

they reflashed my nav today at dealership made it 2.50 Teck said it took about 1/2 hour start to finish. Map seems to have more info on it but I cannot be sure as it is a while since I used it. He told me that the upgrade now is on his computer so he can do one any time with out going on line.

Has anyone on this Forum asked Honda America if this can be done?

I've called Honda UK and asked this question but I'm still waiting for an answer.
It seems to me that its the easiest and best way to solve this problem.

The software on the UK bikes is version 2.60 and every one I know that has bought a new 2012 model is still having the same trouble with recalculating and freezing !

Anyone got any better suggestions?

2012 GPS Rebooting

After 7000 miles, mine rebooted. I stopped by the local dealer yesterday. They told me to clean the contacts on the SD card...and to no surprise it did not work. The dealer said they had several reports of the problem and cleaning the contacts appeared to resolve the issue...I won't be back to this dealer.

New 2012, new firmware??

Wow gents...this was an interesting and informative thread! I am about to order a 2012 Airbagger from Southern Honda in Orlando. Should my new bike already come with the 2.50 firmware update, or am I going to have to go through all of the BS to either send the brand new unit to Honda for upgrade, or try and duplicate an issue with the service manager watching. Can the dealership now do the firmware upgrade in-house? Almost makes me want to wait for the 13's to come out!!

Thanks for any info!!

2012 Navigation Issue

I also received my notice today....I'm really grumbling, since I was just talking to the service manager about my problem on Saturday. He told me to clean the SD card contacts and I receive this notice TODAY! Like I previously said....I need a new dealer with a better service department.

You guys that received these notices , had you previously contacted Honda regarding problems with your SAT/NAV ?

I got my notice today and I never contacted the dealer or Honda.
