Beartooth Pass (West Summit) Cool Video

Here is a little video I did taking you down the West Summit of Beartooth Pass. I know many of you have done this part of the whole Beartooth Highway (212), but this short section makes one heck of a ride. It is a real "Bucket List" ride. If you have not had the pleasure of this ride, I hope this video will give you a sense of the beauty and thrill of this road.

Move videos coming.

Great video. My friend and I are thinking of going to that area to ride and this just makes me want to go even more. How did you set up the video camera? I will be looking forward to seeing the rest of the pictures.:yes1: gig'em aggies '82.

I have a mount on the dash, but I use it on the windshield and on various other stable spots as well. this whole one was shot from the dash mount. you can see it in one of the still shots in the set up.

Jim,

That wasn't last summer was it? As I recall the weather wasn't that good when we talked. Those stills make me think I rode it in the wrong direction. Next time.

Richard
that was last year, we hit it just right one day before the rain hit. this was just a few days before the really bad weather hit West Yellowstone !!

Nice job Jim. Tell us about the music. Brings back memories of last year. We stayed two nights in Red Lodge and rode Beartooth over to Yellowstone and back. Every bit as spectacular as Rocky Mountain National Park in our back yard. Must go back again this year.

TOTALLY AWESOME !!!!! Thanks for the video. We've ridden past Top of The World but never got to Montana. Had to turn around and go back. Beautiful ride in both directions. If we're able to make the trip this year this will be on the route. Great background music by the way. :yes1:

so glad you guys like it. it is one of the coolest roads you'll ever ride. Stay in Cody and you can do Chief Joseph (Wy 296) and Beartooth all at once easily over to Red Lodge and back. Then you are also near the East gate to Yellowstone. Cody has great places to eat and a very nice Buffalo Bill Museum that is worth 1/2 to a full day.

The music? ... I should make you guess. You probably know this artist. He sang "A Man of Constant Sorrow" in the movie.. O Brother Where Art Thou, with George Clooney.....

Dan Tyminski, in Allison Krauss's band Union station. this tune is the title track of his CD "Wheels". (2008)

Jim, great video. This July will be my 3rd crack at Bearstooth. I was there shortly after the slide and one other time early June it was closed with snow. We're staying at the Cody Cowboy Village for 5 nights so hope to get it done one of those days.

Gives me the fever to go back. Rode 212 across Bear Tooth Pass in August of 09 on my 08 pearl white Wing from Red Lodge to NE entrance to Yellowstone NP. Was a lot of road construction going on at the time. Several miles of gravel, but still enjoyed the ride. Beautiful country. Thanks for the vedio.

Great video, makes me want to get out there ASAP!

I am guessing you could have caught those two in front of you...

dr.jim, did just that about 6 years ago. those 2 roads are the best in the country. Cody is a great place to stay for sure. the weekend we were in Cody there was a rodeo, first one I have ever been to. That Sat. the street was closed next to Erma's Bar, had a bunch of actors that put on a mock gun fight. Yellow stone was great, but time was running short so only got to spend 1 long day there. Stopped at the Top of the World. Cold enough to put out electric clothes on. This is on my bucket list to do nest year.

Yes, 08 and 09 had a lot of construction, but most, not all, was finished last year. the next few years should be smooth sailing.

I was lucky to catch this downhill summit ride (really only about 8 miles) this day without any cars or RV's in front.

Many times on Beartooth there is more than a normal amount of way too slow traffic and not enough safe places to pass, so you just have to enjoy the ride. IF you catch it right, you can do that road with little traffic and it is almost surrealistic.

Thanks For the Video, great scenery.

I like to ride that at my own speed and that's slow, just to take in all the beauty.

Loved the video; a great bright, clear picture. That road has been on my list for a while now. I hope to ride it in the next year or two at the most. Thanks so much for posting.

BTW, I was very impressed by the bicyclist riding UP the road. That takes some strong legs and lungs!
