Hi all:

I will be relocating to TN some time over the next few months. Will end up in the Nashville area. My wife will be working in Brentwood and I will have a sales territory of Northern Nashville up to the Kentucky line and east to Cookeville and west to Clarksville. Looking for thoughts on housing, good areas, good school districts (kids are 8 and 10), commuting distances to Brnetwood, etc. We have time to look around and seeking opinions from all over and you all are just one other area of exploration.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

She's going to be working on the South side and you're going to be working on the North side. Who hates traffic the worse ???
Actually, the commute into town (Nashville) from Franklin or Brentwood on I-65 is not too bad since it is a fairly new multi-lane road. I know whereof I speak. My wife commuted from Brentwood to Percy Priest Dam every day for a few months. She took I-65 to I-440 to I-40 and never had a problem.

Good schools in Williamson County as well. Many folks who relocate to Nashville area end up in Williamson County.

Hope this info helps. Best of luck in your relocation.

I'm moving to the Nashville area soon, too. I'll be actually working in Springfield, north of there. We've been looking in the Goodlettsville and Hendersonville areas.

You might consider opening up a thread in the Tennessee sub-board too.

I have lived in the Nashville area for 25 years and it has been great. Do some research on Rutherford County (Murfreesboro) it was listed recently as the 5th most desired place to live in the United States and the first in Tennessee. The schools are a plus as well. The commute on 840 to 65 would not be bad at all. If you live in Franklin then you will be very close to Brentwood as well. Wilson County is up an growing and cheaper to live in than Rutherford or the Franklin area. The sales tax rate is 9.75 in Rutherford and 9.25 in Wilson or Davidson. Feel free to e-mail me any questions and I will try and supply you with whatever information you need. Welcome!

It sounds like either you or your wife is going to have to drive thru Nashville due to your job locations. Nashville traffic can be bad at times, but you will soon learn how to work around most of the difficult areas.

You're moving to a great area to "ride". Hope you enjoy it and maybe we'll meet on the road sometime.

I don't recommend Robertson or Davidson County schools. I had my kids in Montgomery county schools before I retired, should have left them in Montgomery county but felt the country living was a better place for them. Guess I made the right decision, they turned out great!

Your move to Tennessee

Welcome, I am a county commissioner of Wilson County, Lebanon, Tennessee and we would welcome you. We are 28 miles east of Nashville on Interstate forty. Less than ten miles from Old HIckory Lake, about 30 from Center Hill Lake and about the same from Cordell Hull Lake if you like and have time for fishing. We have a city park with a walking trail. Cumberland College, new schools near the Mt. Juliet area, which is 15 miles closer to Nashville and hope to eventually build a new high school in Lebanon. Write to the Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, Public Square, Lebanon, Tennessee 37087 and they will gladly send you literature. Some great riding up around the Cookeville, Spencer, Center Hill, Red Boiling Springs area with lots of twisties. Franklin, as they say is nice, but it is more affluent than most of the other towns and I would imagine the cost of living to be higher. Other close towns are Gallatin and Murfreesboro. Consult a good map.Logan T. Jenkins
