Don't think we're going to get as much as they predicted here in SW Iowa. We'll still get north of 4 inches. Glad I got my Feb. ride in a couple of weeks ago:)

My youngest daughter is a Pediatric nurse in Columbia Mo. She and others are spending the night there due to snow. Her husband made it home earlier and shovelled 10 to 12 inches of snow off their driveway. Looks to be a long night as it's still snowing...

With much of the country suffering droughts the last couple of years, any snow benefits not only where it falls, but, everything downstream from it. The Great Lakes are all below historical lows, so I want to see as much of that white stuff up here as possible. I have food, water and a practically new snowblower, bring it on.

Have some fun!
Snow Ice Cream Recipe #1
This is a classic recipe that works really well because the sweetened condensed milk is thick and helps hold quickly melting snow together.

  • 1 gallon or big bowl of clean snow (if you like, you can put the bowl outdoors to collect it as it falls)
  • 1 14-oz can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Mix the ingredients together and eat the snow ice cream. Yummy!
Snow Ice Cream Recipe #2

  • 1 gallon or big bowl full of snow
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cream or milk
Again, just mix the ingredients together. You get the idea.
Chocolate Snow Ice Cream

  • big bowl of snow
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate milk
Chocolate Snow Ice Cream Recipe #2

  • big bowl of snow
  • 1 14-oz can of sweetened condensed milk
  • chocolate syrup or cocoa powder, to taste
Other Snow Ice Cream Variations
Some people like to substitute rum for the vanilla. You could add pureed fruit, such as strawberry or peaches. You may enjoy making a sort of snow ice cream float made by dropping a scoop of snow ice cream into your favorite soda.

Wichita, KS snow

It has snowed about 10" here in Wichita since early Wednesday morning. I think it has stopped now (Thursday @ 10:00 pm).

A couple of photos I took earlier today.

The weather man says we may get up to 18 inches of snow. I haven't seen a snow this big in Kansas since I was a kid. That was a LONG time ago.
I grew up in Northwest Kansas Tim, I'm a few years older than you are, they get a storm like this every few years out there, don't think they always get down to the Wichita area. I got caught in one in 1985 while flying Pipeline near Hill City, had to make an instrument approach into Hays, they go almost 2' in that one.

My sister in law lives in Hamden Conn. They got hit with 40" of snow. It was coming down at 3" per hour. She couldn't get out her doors. Climbed out a window to get to the shovels. Didn't get her car out for three days. They cleared the roads with bucket loaders. It was some mess. :nojoke: Tom :trike:

The weather guessers sure missed on this one, forecast called for 8.2", we maybe got 4". Hopefully more on the way Monday, we so need the moisture as the sub soils are absolutely dry. Our farmers did well last year in spite of the drought but our sub soils were really good going into summer.

Check out a guy named Joe Bastardi with Weatherbell Analytics, used to be with Acuweather. Joe predicted this storm 2 weekas ago on Fox, he doesn't believe in Global Warming/Climate Change, says were in a pattern similar to the 50s which I remember well, he studies ocean temps and other patterns from the past and compares them with what is going on now to make many of his predictions.:yes1:
