Dropped my Wing last night

I pulled up in a parking lot and put down my kickstand and didn't notice that It had not gone all the way down, so when I set it down "on the kickdstand", it just kept going. I was able to use a version of the technique on the Ride Like a Pro video and stand it back up quickly (in other words, before anybody else saw, especially since I was meeting up with a couple of Harley guys). Crash bars did their job and no damage sustained whatsoever, aside from a slightly bruised ego. I couldn't even see any scratches in the paint on the crash bars.

Almost 50 years ago, an old guy who drove an ancient Indian Chief, told me there were two types of riders: those that have dropped their bikes and those getting ready to. He was right. ;)

If they extend past the crash bars, then probably yes. Are they the pegs in the normal positioni or the highway peg type?
They do mount to and stick out a bit from the bars, but I'm hoping that if I sit it down soft enough they won't break.

dropped mine with my wife on behind....talk about bruised ego...i was more concerned however with her
getting a foot caught underneath than anything. we were on a trip at the time and pulled into a parking lot that had scattered gravel. when to stop and the foot kept sliding...over we went. She tucked in and the crash bars did their job.

Bike wouldn't start for about 15 minutes (wouldn't start so waited that long to try again)

Then continued on our trip....but went to a different place to eat!

Dropped my F6B before I was even done buying it. I had signed everything but needed the wifes signature and other than having her load up the kids and drive 60 miles to the dealership I rode them home. Took a wrong turn on the way back and had to turn around on a dead end, wasn't comfortable yet with that and dropped it.

Bike was fine, as the crash bars caught it, and aside from a few choice words muttered inside my helmet all was well.

dropped mine the other day while sitting at traffic lights...the young lady in front decided to reverse back into me..I blasted the horn and could not move...she reversed into my left side lower cowling (where the driving lights go) and over to the right I went with a nice somersault (me, not the bike!) into the grass! I was at least three feet from her....

She said she didn't see me...with a few choice words I explained that I was sitting right in line with her right mirror and that she has three mirrors to check before reversing. I also pointed out that the bike is as big as a car and that she should look over her shoulder. The three unrestrained dogs in the back seat of the jeep probably didn't help.

I have highway pegs fitted....my left foot got dragged and the peg skinned my shin. The right foot peg bent and cracked so that had to be replaced. Paintwork was fine. Lucky I was not a few inches to the left as she would have hit the front wheel/forks and that would have been uglier.

I sent her a bill for the foot peg ($15 plus $25 expedited shipping (I needed it overnight from Honda) so I will be interested to see if she pays up.

Take your bows, address your adoring public, pick it up and get on with living. If'n you ain't dropped it, you prolly ain't ridin it enough.

Ho harm no foul.

Next time it happens and there are witnesses, simply give the bike a very stern look and tell it to "stay." Then walk away like that's how it's supposed to be!!

Welcome to the club. See you at the meeting

By the way....new guy brings the snacks :joke:

One of the times I dropped my '03 was on a boat landing.
I was stopped and was turning around and misjudge the slope.
Over it went real slow.

I had a audience of boaters on the lake and swimmers at a near by beach.

I swear for a few minutes with the stares I got, the world stopped turning until
I righted my GL1800 and everyone started to breath again.

I think dropping your bike is worst around people that know you.
Around a group of strangers your like: "What the hell are you staring at?" pick it up and ride off.

Happened to me with my 1200 (first wing I'd owned). Was turning around in the back yard on the grass. Was probably going TOO SLOW! Just sort of slowed down and rolled onto my left leg. Ever so slowly. Didn't hurt, just captured my leg underneath. Didn't really even lay ON my leg just couldn't pull the leg out. Called out my wife's name, all I could hear was the vacuum cleaner in the house! I knew she didn't hear me! My neighbor was out and asked if I needed anything, he came over and helped lift just enough to get my leg free. Picked her up and that was the end of that! Like the last poster said, no blood, no foul!!

Have yet to drop my 1800 but I know my clock is running. I did however recently drop my BMW R1150RT "Giraffe" pulled into a driveway at a garage sale tried to turn around in an side sloping driveway and right foot just wouldn't touch the ground. The bike was smart enough to lower itself till my foot made contact but continued to the ground despite my protest. The built in protection on the RT happens to also double as saddle bags and cylinder heads. Fortunately the previous owner had pre scuffed both sides. Mine blended in nicely.

Dropped mine a few years back, we had stopped for gas and hung our helmets over the mirrors. I finished filling the bike, put my helmet on with the wife's helmet still on the right mirror. Since she was still in the station, I figured I would move the bike away from the pumps and park next to the door.

I started to pull away from the pump, as I turned the bike to the left the brake lever hit the helmet which abruptly stopped the bike. It tipped over on its left side pinning my foot underneath.

As I sit there waiting for the people around to lift the Wing off my foot the only thing I could think of was the old Laugh In skits with Arte Johnson tipping over on his tricycle.

Had the exact experience with a '96 Honda Pacific Coast in a parking lot at a Coast Guard Auxiliary gathering. I took a quick 360 look around and realized no one has seen my blunder. I was mad enough to just lift it back up and flip the kickstand down. No damage except to my ego. Did it again on an '05 FJR1300 at a gas pump. Wasn't as lucky that time, because the bike pinned me against the pump and I couldn't do a thing. Fortunately, the fellow on the other side of the pump realized my predicament and came to the rescue and stood the bike up for me. Felt like a real idiot. No harm, no foul, but I pay a LOT more attention to the kickstand on the Goldwing.

If nobody saw it then it didn't happen.
Good one ! Reminds me of the old question...." if a tree falls in the forest, and there is no one to hear it, did it make any sound"??
