Death Valley

Returning from Kent, WA last year we toured DV by car. I tried to explain "alluvial fan" and had to face blank stairs and rolling eyes. I too couldn't image such an event; but yet-------

Death Valley

Nice post. I just rode through Death Valley a couple of weeks ago. No problems. Be safe and enjoy the ride. Larry

It will be fine next Feb. And the weather will be great, although there will be the usual naysayers, the alternative will not be tolerated. Lol

Matt, since you are our closest correspondent in the area, and you were kind enough to share with the rest of the group, think you will need to periodically check in on the conditions. :D

I'd say monthly from here until January would be appropriate.

Hehehe...

Unless you are riding a dual sport bike the major Gold Wing roads are fine. Wildrose would be the only closed road a Wing could get through but I'd say 94% of the owners here would not ride their Wing on it.

I love Death Valley on my KLR

Hi, Doug!

What's a little disconcerting is that you think that number is that high. :joke:

KLR in Death Valley, kinda like peanut butter and jelly I'd say. :)

Thank Matt

Happens every few years. Last time was about 2003 I think. We'll see about February. I wonder if "Big Pine / Death Valley road" is the same one we took to lunch in Bishop, 168. Love that road.
168 is just fine, I was on it a week ago.

Big Pine/Death Valley Road goes from Big Pine to the Eureka Dunes and on to Death Valley. 3/4 of it is a dirt road- not a Gold Wing road.

Well you could try it on a Wing but plan on walking out

Hey! I know this guy!!

I was rooting through some online photos from last year's annual trek to the desert...

Google has been nice enough to create a panoramic photo out of of three I took while there back in February:

Asphalt Road Panorama Sky Wilderness

That's cool right there, I don't care who you are!

That 78 degree heat at Furnace Creek last February sounds pretty good right now.
Low 80s and overcast, and where I would want to ride today is being pummeled by thunderstorms today, so I have been a bit busy tending to a few things needing to be done around here.

Just a short five months to wait for that fun yet again. :]

I think the only road that was closed in the years that I've ridden has been the road up to Dante's.

Since the park is quite popular in the winter months it would not surprise me if the road was fixed from badwater to Shoshone.

Anyways, just a couple more months of waiting... ;)
