Odd Symptoms

I just completed an air filter change on the 2008 GW. Everything is now okay except:

1. The volume control/display on the handlebar only works when the switch is pushed down. It will only only reduce the volume. Volume control is okay on the radio panel, up and down and displays okay.

2. No CB display or control from the handlebar or radio/audio panel.

3. No radio (FM/AM) tuning from the handlebar. Presets are still functioning.

It does not appear to be a fuse issue. More likely something with the connector on the handlebar controls. Both the main plugs on the audio system made distinct clicks when they locked in place. It is probably time to start searching the wiring diagrams; however, the people on this forum have made amazing diagnosis before. :doorag:

Check all your connections again:shrug:

Battery Disconnected

The negative terminal of the battery was disconnected during the entire process of air filter change. It was disconnected again after I discovered the really "Weird" symptoms. Connected now, same results. It is apparently a function of the left handlebar controls, perhaps the main connector...but I ain't gonna bet the farm on that one. The connectors Honda uses on the most complicated wiring system in MC history are well made and it would be difficult to induce problems with them. Difficult is not the same as impossible. I have watched people break 50 pin wiring connectors on high performance jet fighters. Go figure. All input on this issue is appreciated, even if you think the Martians did it. :doorag:

Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for 10 mins, reconnect it and try it again. Did you disconnect the battery while doing the filter change?

Ok, so you wouldn't have messed with the handlebar control's connectors under the fairing pockets, so maybe one of the audio unit's connectors has a bent pin.

I know the two connectors on the radio clicked into place... But... If you had them disconnected there is still a chance the problem lies there. Maybe a pin pushed out of the connector, a bad connection, or something like that.

Problems most always arise on the stuff you touched. Not something at the other end of the machine. I made a good living asking "What did you touch last?".

I can relate to what you are saying. ( 47 years as a mech )

Problem Solved

One of the connectors had come loose on the radio/audio system when the shelter was repositioned. A quick look at the wiring diagram on the computer screen confirmed what several writers had suggested. The willingness of the members to assist in troubleshooting makes the price of admission worth it. Thanks to everyone for their input!
