I listed my high mileage 2007 Goldwing on E bay and received a minimum bid without ever talking to the person. When it was over I sent my name and number and asked for him to call me. When I received a call it was from his friend who said he had planed on coming to get it from Texas to North Carolina on Tuesday and would bring cash. I told him as stated in E bay I wanted $200 in Paypal within 48 hours and we would meet at my bank with cash and get the title notarized.

I didn't feel to good about the sale because the phone call I received was from a blocked number and it was from a friend of his and the address of the winner was a self storage business address. About 2 hours ago I received $200 in my Paypal account and I did check it wasn't a fake email letter the money is in my account.

Am I missing anything does this sound like a good sale?

You have $200 and still have the title - The next step is up to the buyer to meet you at the bank with cash - When that happens your sale will be complete - making it a good sale- if nothing else happens you got $200 and still have your bike if the buyer doesn't show or ask for his funds back :)

is the auction over? Or did he just placed a minimum bid? If the auction isn't over, you're not obligated just because he sent money via PayPal

few questions to ask yourself
how long has he been a member?
did you check his feedback rating?
can you get his email and or phone number off eBay or PayPal.
have a phone number from this storage business?

if it were me, I always side on err of caution. I would return the deposit IF...again IF... You can not get this guys information to call or, if he gets to bank and has some excuses and not all the cash.i would not agree to meet anyplace else

Perhaps others will chime in with other options I haven't thought of.

I'm not sure how you can have a bad sale when you are standing in a bank with the cash in your hand.

That is another thing he is a new E bay user. The auction was over.

I guess as long as we meet at the bank and the money goes into my account before he gets the title I should be good.

While I error on the side of caution, that doesn't mean this is a bad situation.

I purchased my current bike over Craigslist and am currently shopping for an 1800 over Craigslist and on this forum. With my BMW, I paid 1/2 with paypal and purchased a one-way ticket to Tampa. At this point the seller decided I was for real, met me at the airport, drove me to his home. We did the paperwork at his home and I loaded the bike and drove away.

Some who receive my iniitial email are suspect and one even said something like, "Are you a clown?" But I was (and am) very serious and honest with the people when I contact them. I know most, if not all, are really wondering if I'm for real.

In this case I would be willing to continue to expect that you will sell the bike. I, obviously, wouldn't meet them at my home. But I would be willing to meet them at the bank.

Make sure you log into yourpaypal and money is there. Not PayPal email saying that it was there that's what scammers are doing now if money in your account I would go ahead with sale. Money talks. Bull**** walks. Let us know if you sell

Move the $200 from Paypal to your bank. Paypal can and will take money back if buyers complain about a transaction. Some of the normal safeguards Paypal provides sellers and buyers are not in play with vehicle sales. You need to read the Paypal rules governing vehicle sales.

Paypal can still charge your account if the funds were sent for goods, again this isn't saying that's what will happen but moving it doesn't mean he cant still pull it back or dispute it?

I have sold a few bikes one Ebay and Craigslist and yes it can be intimidating but as long as you safeguard yourself you should be fine.

I would expect your going to meet him at the bank with the bike and not at your house first to look at it and test ride it???

When I sold my first wing on ebay, I asked for a $500.00 deposit at the end of the auction, and full payment to my bank account within 3 days if not a local pick up. At the end of the auction the winner was out of state, so he transferred the payment to my bank and arranged it to be picked up. All went well, but if your buyer is planning to have it shipped, open another account at your bank and have the money sent there ahead of time. That way they do not have any access to your main banking account information.

Well I sold my Wing today with 145,000 miles on it. Three guys drove 1200 and put it in the back of there pickup.

They meet me at the bank with cash and the teller ran it through there counter and checker and said it was good and put it in my account.

It just goes to show you can sell a high mileage wing you just have to price it at the low end. I got $6800 for it but had 9 years of fun with many long trips on it.

A friend of mine locally sold his 02 with OVER 200,000 on the clock, AND it had a rebuilt title...within 24 hours after listing, for $5000. Guy came up from Alabama, to his house, with cash...and loaded it in his truck and happily headed off down south.
