Default Goldwing 1800, 01' to 06', which year is best?

Considering all of the changes to the 1800, which model year is the very best and why?

Are the 01's frames stronger or the 05's seats more comfortable?

Does the 06' sterio really blow you away, is newer really better?

Is the color selection on the 04's the best ever?

What do you like about your wing and why is it better than other year productions.

Curious minds would really like to hear your opinion.
In the 60's the only "woodstock", I saw, was on an M-14 rifle. USMC 64'-68'

    2001 Pearl Yellow 1800A
    "Mello Yello"

    1988 Heritage
    "Sippin Whiskey"

    1981 Super Glide stroker
    "bugs in your teeth"

Still riding and wrenching on all three, especially the Shovel head !!!

this is my first wing, and yes the stereo will blow you away, and the navi is a definite plus for me, as is the comfort package also. as for your other questions , someone else with more knowledge of the wings will have to chime in on those.hope this helps.

I waited until I saw major improvements. The 2006 was it.

The 2006 models have bigger radiators and bigger fans to help alleviate the overheating problem. I believe the stock stereo is very much improved - it sounds good to me.

I believe 2005 was the first year with no recalls so I decided it was finally safe to get a 2006. My policy is never buy the first couple of years after a significant model change as was done in 2001. (Same with new releases of software like Windows, for example - I let others be the guina pigs. )

Color selection: I don't see how anyone can answer that. If you like a color, you like a color. The 2006 color selection is blasted by many people - but it included the one color I wanted so for me the selection was the best.

I like my 2006 Wing better than other years because of the color (gold), the NAV, I like the looks of the dash and instrumentation much better and stock heated grips/seat that work way better than I expected.

    I always buy first year models. I bought a 75 Wing GL-1000, then a 80 Wing, GL-1100, Then a 85 Wing GL-1200 FI, Then a 88 Wing GL-1500 and now this 01 Wing, GL-1800 and can't wait until the next model change

It seems after the first model, they tame em down a bit, The late models can't keep up with the first year model, Late model must be to heavy with all the do dads added to them

Depends on your point of view. If it is forward, then the best bike is under you. I like bugs, so first year editions are for me. 75, 81, 84, 88, 01. But bells and whistles flip my switch, too. So, also liked my 76SE, 87Aspy, 95SE. But I like to be open minded, so also ran around on a Voyager 1300, Voyager XII, Venture 1200, Venture Royale 1300, Calvacade XLE, and a few other non-tourers.

Maybe I'm just a junkie? My favorite bike is the one I just started.

Default THE NEW O6 WING IS THE ONE.......

Had Candy Red 03 Wing.....loved it except for the frame welding......got an 06 Dark Red with Nav. package........MAN...what an incredible bike......it actually rides better since they modified the frame and handles better......the sound system is awesome---the Nav package and the heated seats and grips are fantastic......2000 miles on it so far and it is flawless ....the best ever......better look at this one.

2001 Illusion Red, as far as speed, handling and the hardness of the paint goes. The first model year is always the best, you just know they want to make a good first impression. Now as far as the radio goes I hope they have improved that but I've had a sirius satellite radio and amp since 2003 so I have been able to make do.

Hope you all have as good of luck with yours as I've had with mine.

2005 has the fastest/ best color: metallic silver. the transmission only clunks 1 to2 if you shift too soon.just double the usual old-time shift speeds and the clunk goes away.

I think any year that is in top running condition is the best year. Bikes set up to fit your needs are the best reguardless of the year. With that said, excluding the 06 I think the 2005 might be the best in that it has had no recalls at all, and you don't have to play the "package game" to get ABS like the 06.

'06 tail lights suck, they don't match, and it gets worse, NO YELLOW, and prices are almost unbearable.
I'll be damed if I'll borrow money on something I can only ride 8 months a year.
Did I tell you how great my '03 "paid for" candy red GL1800 is?

If you have this clunking, is there slop in your throttle cable? There was in mine, and when I adjusted it to remove the slop I was amazed how that smoothed the shifting.

I also had an '03, did the recalls, no problems sold it after 22,000 miles for ST1300 then VFR and now back to '05. I swear that the '05 feels lighter and handles better than the '03 though I'm sure there's no reason for it. I bought my'05 late last fall when '06's were coming out. I didn't want navigation and heated anything so I picked up my pretty Candy dark cherry that someone put 1000 miles on and added fog lights, headling modulator, rear speakers then traded for sport bike. He took the hit and I got a good deal. 12,000 miles on it so far and no problems, recalls and lots of fun. I'm picking up a great deal on a '04 VTX1300 in 2 weeks, the guy put on a adjustable quick detach memphis shades windscreen, Mustang seat, honda deluxe backrest, Kury iso grips and switchblade pegs and a few other $$ items then rode it 600 miles and is selling to me for $6900!! no tax or dealer fees. Buy a new/used with low miles and save $$$.

Had an 02 Ill Blue, 04 hot rod red and now an 05 Blue. Couldn't tell a nickles worth of difference in them... all three had a little wobble, frame recall on the 02, but sold it before I needed that, also triked it out (didn't care for the trike)...just didn't like the red color and when the Blue came out, I traded ( Love the Blue)....

As for comfort, well all my Harley Ultras were more comfortable for ME, but the wing is better for the wife and no heat issues for either of us...HD was just HOT in traffic

I think the 05's were the best, can't say anything about the 06, dash looks better....
