I just went to my credit union and told them I was going to trike my Goldwing. She had no idea what a Goldwing was. She obtained the NADA book and looked up the value. I will put about $4k down and finance the remainder on the value of the bike. This was 1:30 pm. By 4 pm, the loan was in my account. Now I can go ahead with the order and wait till the end of the month for the conversion.

I've had a few of our customers mention they did it as an RV loan. Better rate, longer terms? I don't know for sure. Sometimes we build 'em for "Free!" At least that's the way it feels

I went and found out how much the trike kit was going to cost installed and went to my banker and refinanced my home. I also lowered the interest rate on the rest of my home loan. I killed two birds with one stone.

The question was on financing, not which trike was being financed!

I sold magazines door to door, mowed lawns and cleaned stables. I was still several thousand $$ short so I married a rich widow. (j/k of course) I was fortunate enough to be able to pay for mine by selling other toys I had accumulated over time. I have a couple of friends who financed their's. One borrowed against his 401K, the other used his car.

Harley Davidson Finance will finance a trike kit if when you are buying a bike from a dealer, new and used. We are right next door to the Harley Shop in Raleigh and as a result we mostly trike Harley's. Don't know if they do this for all the kits, but I know they do them for the DFT Trikes.

So far, none of the Honda dealers or Honda have stepped up to the plate as far as financing goes.

But these Harley riders sure do inspect my GW 1800.

Maxim Honda in Allen Texas had no problems whatsoever finding us financing for the new 1800 Goldwing (in 2006) and California Side Car we bought from them. Bought the bike new and left it until it was triked about two months later.

Well I first bought all these shares of Harley Davidson stock at $18 a share when my former broker warned me not to, and next thing I know I was retired by age 43, ten years ago. Still had a few bucks left over for my Champion trike conversion last fall, so I stroked out a check.

I might be smarter than a 5th grader, you never know.

I suspect there are lots of options out there. I would suggest calling around to the banks and other loan sources in your area.

Me, well, I am still paying my wife back, I suspect I will be for a very long time. I did it just like CptDenny (wrote the check) but left out a small little detail. I forgot to tell her until it was delivered.

Uh Oh, I bet you ARE still paying her back! Sounds like she gets really nice presents for Christmas, Birthday, Mother's Day . . .
Actually, she probably enjoys going on it so much you got off easy . . . plus she seems like a really nice person!

When I bought mine, had to think about it. Figured, Hell, I don't have the bucks, so may as well have a trike.

And then I got one will all the added do dads. When they come to repo it, I want them to get first class stuff.

Only ones that complained were the kids.

Jack said, Geez, Dad, what are you going to leave us?

I told him hopefully a worn out trike, old camp trailer, and anything else I could not take with me.

He said if I keep it up, I better not walk on the curb side of him!!!!

Wealthy Mother-in-Law. She is 86 and decided to divy a little cash out. Jan and I do a lot for her, she lives just down the street. When I pulled up with the finished trike she looked at it and I told her how I paid for it, she said " Good for you, glad you put the money to good use"

Opened an account at the credit union and they called Motor Trike to find out the value. The financed 90% at 6%. I was very lucky to have a loan officer that had done a trike before. The hardest part is getting a bank or credit union to understand what your talking about. They look up the VIN# and say that Goldwing is worth $20,000. You have to show where the other money is going... Good luck and shop around...

Went to the credit union they never heard of converting a motorcycle into a trike. So I had to get proof of value from Hannigan, the value of the finnished trike was a lot more than the loan I had to take out plus I put down a couple grand, so they approved the loan. I got it at 3.99 for 6 years. They wont cut the check until the trike is done so they locked the interest rate for me and said if it went down I could get that rate too. I should be done in the next couple weeks....then is gonna be a loooong winter here in wisc!

I saw a light in the back 40 of the next ranch at 0230. It stayed a few minutes and then left. I said to my self, "self, that UFO buried something in Jones' pasture. We should look."

I went over and saw the fresh earth, removed it and found this lead lined coffee can. It was full of gold coins. I thought "aliens do not have any use for gold!"

I don't finance anything....at least not since about 1965 or so when I relaized that I was paying someone else much more than I should have to. If I can't pay cash for it, I don't buy it. If I want it bad enough, I simply wait until I have the cash. Simple but sensible. In fact, my last trike was paid for before it was ever ordered.

This is an interesting thread except the references to federal credit unions subsidized by US taxpayers. IMO credit unions outlived their usefulness more specifically any remaining justification for tax subsidies at least 25 years ago.
