Default BikeMP3 GL2WAY GL1800 Gold Wing Advanced CB system vs. Honda CB

I was wondering if anyone had experience with the GL2WAY CB. I am upgrading from my 02 to an 08 and figured it might be easier to sell my 02 with the old CB in it rather that take it out and put it in the new bike. If this is a much better CB then it might be worth buying for the new bike. I would appreciate any feedback...Thanks

My understanding acquired only recently is that the GL2Way sold by Sierra and Pete's BikeMP3 is not a CB radio but a complex electronic module that provides integration of CB or FRC radios with GPS units, Bluetooth cell phones, and other components and the Goldwing system.

The GL2Way can be purchased with or without a CB module. It can accomodate and integrate a CB or an FRS radio with handlegrip controls and tie the audio outputs off all the systems together so that the rider can hear them in his helmet headset.

See BikeMP3's website or review a recent thread where I inquired about the GL2Way unit. Many members including Pete posted great information to that thread over a a several day period.

By all means I would leave the old CB in your bike when you sell it. The GL2Way is a much better alternative in my opinion. Great product, great company.

I bought my '08 Wing new, last year, without a CB. My Wife got me the GL2way with CB and Antenna this past Xmas. Installed it in about 30 minutes, checked the SWR, didn't need any adjustment and it works great.

Today I just added the GL2Way GPS cable, which allows me to plug the audio out, from my radar detector into the GL2Way unit, so I can now hear the radar alerts through the bikes audio system through the speakers or into my helmet.

Great support from Pete at GL2Way.

Other posters (not me) provided lots of excellent discussion and links which allowed me to gain an understanding.

Do you know if the GPS cable also has a wire to plug <INTO> the GPS's microphone INPUT? I'm hoping that this is available to integrate the headset microphones to use the GPS's Bluetooth/phone options. In other words, be able to talk through the GPS Bluetooth phone connection.

    Steve,
    Yes, I think this is what you are looking for;
    http://www.bikemp3.com/GL1800-1500-G...GW-GPS-MIC.htm
I have my phone bluetooth paired with my Garmin, which has the above cable hooked up to the mic out. With my phone connected to the AUX I can listen to music/podcasts on my phone, CB, and take/make calls all through the GL2WAY.

Perfect! It looks like I'll be saving my pennies to be buying a GL2way for sure (without the CB module) and add the GPS MIC interface!
Does anyone have a PDF file of the connections and pinouts on the GL2way? I'd like to "study-up".

Every once in a while, rain will fall, sounds like your friend has a defective unit. Contact Pete, he offers excellent service.

    Default GL2Way

I did exactly what you (the original OP) did. I am sending mine back next week for a software upgrade so that I can shut off the FRS portion. I don't need it now, most of the guys I ride with don't know what it is nor can they spell it.

    My experience.
    Service - Pete aka Pedro66 - OUTSTANDING
The unit - ALL and I repeat ALL the problems I have had are due to operator error and a basic lack of understanding of electronics. Case in point...my CB quit sending or receiving the other day on a ride. Sent Pete an email and he asked me a few questions and told me to go to the garage and do a couple of tests. Seems in my chattiness on the CB I had switched it from CB to the "other radio"....ONE BEEP is CB = Two Beeps is FRS and never the twain shall they meet. That is what the software upgrade is going to do for me...takes away that ability of the unit to switch over for those of us who don't have FRS or see the need. According to Pete, I can use the CB controls and switch it back at a later date. Upgrade is free.

Get the best antennae and do it.
