Maryland: A de facto waiting period of up to fifteen days while the State Police do a background check for hand guns and "restricted" weapons (read: assault rifles.) No waiting period for ordinary rifles and shotguns.

There's a 48 hour wait in Wisconsin. It took 6 days for my first. I don't think there's any wait for long guns but am not sure.

Oklahoma... maybe 30 minutes for shotgun, rifle, or pistol.. Show your in state drivers license... answer about 10 questions....dealer makes a call.. if approved, pay and walk.. Depends how long the line is at the counter and if the agency on the other end of the phone line is too busy. Probably a little longer this week if you can find anything to buy. No "assault" rifles in at least the 2 major gun dealers in Tulsa.

With our draconian gun laws here in New Germany (Jersey) the waiting period is however long it takes and can be up to several weeks. To purchase a long gun (even a BB or pellet gun) or a hand gun you first must go to your local Police department and obtain a "Firearms Purchaser Identification Card". And if you want to purchase a hand gun, you'll need to get a separate permit for that. Fingerprinting is involved and you have to sign a consent for mental health record search. It's so complicated that most people don't even try. You even have to have a NJ firearms ID card just to purchase ammunition. NJ is NOT a gun-friendly state.

Iowa needs a permit to purchase pistols and revolvers, or a carry permit. No wait. Walk right out the door with it.
