Teutul files bankruptcy for OCC merchandising unit

PAUL TEUTUL SR., founder of Orange County Choppers Holdings, has filed for bankruptcy protection for his merchandising unit, and says he plans to liquidate its assets.
Hudson Valley Merchandising LLC listed $1.12 million in assets and $1.44 million in debts in papers filed Thursday in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The filing is limited to the merchandising business and does not involve the parent company, according to the New York Post.
Under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code a trustee will automatically be appointed to dismantle the company, sell its assets and distribute the proceeds to creditors.
The Teutuls’ “American Chopper” reality television show ended its run on the Discovery Channel in December.

A knuckle head that got way too carried away with himself. Living high off the hog too long, and not his first business failure. I feel bad for his creditors, he should have done better for them rather than cost them losses. Almost wish his whole deal never happened. Us locals have seen this and more coming for a long time.

Their shop was never organized and their schedules not realistic. No one ever showed up to work on time and responsibilities were never assigned and adhered to. They all needed to leave their "bad-ass" egos at the door and apply the work ethic and productivity more. I stopped watching the show long ago.

If my employees ever acted like that, the person would be fired. There are probably 10 or 15 more talented people out there that would jump at a job like that and do well!

Not exactly sure what all "merchandising" entails, but when we were at their place a couple of years ago, all they had in their store was crap. Really low quality caps, t-shirts and logo junk and all way overpriced. I always buy a cap everywhere I go, and I could not find one decent enough to spend $20 on. Also, there were 2 girls working there and nobody ever waited on us, even though we were the only 2 people in the whole place.

This is just for merchandising. The hours, shop appearance, in-fighting, are not part of this. This is just the stuff that they thought they could sell (soft goods) based on the name recognition.

The end of the TV deal sealed this. No more free advertising.

3 Goldwing and 2 HD (wore one of them out) And I never owned an HD. Several years ago I was involved with a ride across the country (not rolling thunder) to raise money for veterans. Every shop that I stopped at, and supported the riders, I supported by buying a shirt. My wife also bought me a NICE HD shirt that has a mesh underlining (like a fishing shirt) that is very nice for riding.

I also have a Buell shirt that has a very attractive logo on it.

Some of the bikes were beautiful, but not sure I would want one that had the wheels pounded on with a hammer. Always wonders where one would get the bikes serviced, if they had issues.

Same number of HD shirts I have... none. You guys overestimate how many people would buy GW shirts. There are about six of you here that would and that's it... there is no market for GW shirts. Only GW owner's would buy them, and then only a few of them. I have no desire for a GW shirt and I own two of the bikes... love 'em. But not much interested in shirts.... HD has this wrapped up because not only do folks who own the bike want everyone made, people who don't even ride will by their shirts.

See... classic. Lynn had two HD shirts and never has even owned a HD bike. No big deal, but no one who owns a HD is going to by a GW shirt, or even a Honda shirt for that matter... you're never going to see much merchandise for GW or Honda... wearing a HD shirt, or a Jack Daniels shirt, is the same as wearing a shirt with the American flag on it. These all basically say I'm an American and proud of it.

OCC stuff kinda says that too..... or did.

A GW or Honda shirt does not represent that, therefore will not sell on the level some of you think it could.

As far as OCC... is a shame that some cannot see their 15 min of fame will be all there is and they should save their money, and not spend so much on all that they did.

I don't understand all the in's and out's of bankruptcy, but it always seems to be an easy way out of not having to pay people what you owe them.

I would bet a lot of money he has burned a whole lot of not so smart, perhaps, well intentioned people with his well planned bankruptcy. No matter what you think of this guy, he is not stupid and has made a great deal of money from not so smart people that buy their lounge act of a show. Ask yourself, would you do business with this guy? If Bulldog wouldn't, and I am 150% certain he would not, that would be enough for me because Luther Hitt, is one very smart cookie and an excellent businessman. I have always admired him and respected his judgement. Nothing gets past him.

If you are just going by what you saw on TV, you need to realize how much of that was scripted. The show was not about building custom motorcycles, it was about drama. I suspect the bankruptcy was not so much about the show going down or the chaos. It was more likely a matter of them simply spending too freely and not knowing how to manage a business.

we all know it's about the follow though in business. Sr. is a different mind set than Jr. I hope Jr. picked of this for a song if it is even worth that. Jr. has got some real talent and that is probably the stem of all the auguring on the show and behind the show Jr. new it didn't like it and left to do his own thing. go jr.

I suspect the bankruptcy was not so much about the show going down or the chaos. It was more likely a matter of them simply spending too freely and not knowing how to manage a business.

I think it's less about managing money and more about no one's has money to spend on luxuries.
