    Default F6B Paint Problem

Hi, my name is Mike I started the paint thread on the F6B site before it crashed. I have had issues with the finish since day one. There is a list of owners that are giving their info so we can all adress Honda about this issue. Please add your info, even if it doesn't bother you as much as other people this is a problem and we need all effected owners to inform Honda so it can be fixed. I have talked to my dealer and mailed a letter to Honda so far, today I have a new plan.

After washing my F6B today I thought I'd wax it. I have several coats of wax already on it trying to protect the finish as best I can, so wiping the dried wax off is pretty easy, not to much elbow grease was needed to complete the work. I used a high quality brand name wax we all know. This is the results of three different cleaning towels I used all on ONE wax job on ONE F6B.

Now, I have boxed them all up even the wax, and printed out the Registry for Owners having issues with their paint, and I'm mailing it to Honda Tuesday morning

I would have to agree, I am also a painter. Or maybe there is something wrong with the hardening of the single stage mat finish.

Honda corporate and my dealer said there is no clear coat on the F6Bs. Other F6Bs in the showroom were the same as mine. This paint sucks, I do not see how it will last...

Yep I was told there is no Clear in the F6B also. I'd love to get a custom paint job on it, but only because I want to not because I need to.

I am not a paint person, but we have not always used clear coat and the paint seemed to be fine. It might be the paint on the F6 is more durable than paint with clear coat used. Although as I say, I am not a paint person, but I use to repaint our company trucks with acriic enamel and it seemed to work fine. Barry

Yes but if he is applying a wax coat on a new bike with a soft cloth and the cloth is turing red then the paint is coming off. NOT GOOD

oxidation. from setting in sun, with no clear. do not know which wax you are using, but looking at those micro fiber rags, would not use them. they say 100 percent cotton, but are cheap china stuff. sold at costco. those rags scratch the bike. upgrade the wax keep applying. try klasse. with there sealant gloss. for a finish.

Honda is going green, starting with a new wing and water based paint. I have heard a lot of complaints and it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Not if the paint system they used isn't a base/clear.

We were spraying clear over paint long before base/clear was ever used.

The "fact" it isn't clearcoated is undebatable, however all is not lost. Keep up with waxing, a non clearcoated paint looks fine and lasts fine. Still it's pretty disappointing for sure to those that have purchased. The bike is not for me, and I wasn't impressed with the looks of the paint for sure on the showroom floor, so my condolences.

    Default Spray on Clear coat

I'm using this on my new F6B - Black. No paint loss or residue left on the polishing rag, very happy so far.

How about using lemon pledge instead of waxing?

I use lemon pledge and it does make a big difference, but the paint is so soft the rock chips and bugs stains from ride to ride keep getting worse, awful job by honda on this one.
Honestly even as much as I love this bike if I would have known about the paint issue I would have never bought the f6b.

Paint problem I have is I have never owned a all black on black bike before and the color drives me crazy keeping clean, shined, without swirl marks.

No chance my paint will come off with all the coats of wax keeping the black looking good..

I attended the Dallas IMS show today. Their Wings were represented by a black 2013 F6B along side a 2014 blacked out full Wing. Both looked like they were 5years old. Admittedly, there were many attendees sitting on and touching the motorcycles but they both had scratches all over them. What a shame. So, I guess they did not change the paint process for 2014.

    Default Went though this before

I had a 2003 black wing. It had the soft paint and it was bad, I would work, wash, wax' polish, it would look great. Next day it would have light foggy spots on it. polish them out, show up someplace else. Also the rims pitted, Yes, I waxed and buffed them out to keep them looking nice. I loved the bike, but, sold it because I wanted to ride NOT buff. I guess I have to pass on the F6B and I really like it.

    No clear coat? Seriously?

I don't know how long it's been since I've got paint color on a polishing cloth, but it's been quite a few years.

    OK, that sucks.

I was going to purchase a Red 2013 F6B Deluxe to keep my Blue Rocket company. I read this thread and called Mother Honda this AM. I was told that both the 2013 and 2014 F6B in any color gets a one step paint job. That means no clear coat. Their excuse is the colors on the F6B don't contain any metallic properties so they decided it did not need any clear coat. They did say that you need to be very careful with the type of wax you apply .
They recommend Honda spray wax/cleaner but that wasn't hard to guess .
They said all the regular generation 2 Goldwings contain some metallic properties and they clear coat them .
I let them know I would not be purchasing any F6B bikes until they change their ways .
I also asked them to consider a "Deluxe Plus" model. That would have ABS brakes (without a crappy GPS) like other countries and a cruise control .
Yeah like they really listen to their customers.
I really loved the F6B that I test rode but can't purchase one that I have to spend $2K to fix the paint .

I hate to see you abandon the F6B. Best motorcycle I have owned in my 50 years of riding. I had a '12 Wing that I sold for the F6B. It was red and metallic. However, the clear coat they used, at least on the red Full Wings, was just as soft as the solid red paint I have on my '13 F6B. I noticed no difference. So, I am happy I made the change. After 11 months and 15000 miles my red F6B still looks as good as new.

I only use spray wax and the fine scratches are there but barely noticeable. That was exactly the same experience I had with my 2012 metallic red Wing.
