Getting Comfortable on the Wing
This used to be called..."For Tall Riders." But most of these ideas work for any sized person, so I've color coded it to that end. You might think of this as an infomercial on Goldwing comfort. Since we are all different, not everyone will appreciate everything and that's ok. Add your own suggestions. These are the things that have made the Wing fun for me and many others. Some ideas came from other riders...some from me...but I'm not telling. Everything posted is applicable to tall riders. [Blue denotes uses for shorter inseams as well.] [This post has been broken up because of the limitations of the new board. I have retained the Traxxion information below because a new post would start an argument. ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() If I were to buy a new 1800, this is the first thing I would do. While some are quite happy with the stock suspension, for me it is just barely adequate. When I added the Traxxion rear shock, spring and the front springs, it changed the entire ride. On the superslabs, I no longer slide forward in my seat. I can still feel the bumps on the road, but they are no longer jarring. In the twisties, it's just magical. The bike just wants to glide through the curves almost effortlessly. ![]() It's expensive. For what I did, the cost is slightly over $1200. To do the whole thing including 2 damping cartridges in the forks, a fork brace, and All Balls tapered bearings will cost around $2600. I'll be getting the full system ASAP. For me it has been money well spent. There are other suspension systems that are less expensive and are not as extensive as Traxxion. Progressive, Race Tech and Hyperpro are the ones of which I know. I have had Progressive and I believe Traxxion to be superior enough to warrant the extra expense. Others' opinions differ. [Please don't argue the case here. Search the boards to find all the arguing you can handle. Link to Traxxion ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For comparison sake here are my stats: 6'2" 37" inseam from crotch to floor in my boots [normally wear 34" jeans] 250 pounds ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seat Pads Seat Modification Diamond Seats Russell Day Long Seats Corbin Seats Risers Peg Relo Kit Highway Pegs ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And Last But Not Necessarily Least You might want to try using a thong style jock strap and LD Comfort Riding Shorts. Both can make a big difference in all day comfort...aren't you glad I didn't include pictures. ![]() I know that some of these ideas may seem unusual, but they have made my ride much more enjoyable. Any suggestions or better ideas welcomed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Links: DIAMOND SEATS HARTCO SEATS RATTLEBARS ISO WING MINI BOARDS FOR MICKS ISO WING MINI BOARDS FOR DRIVERS' BOARDS MICK O PEGS AIRHAWK SEAT PADS AQUA AIRE SEAT PAD HANDLEBAR RISERS...WEDGES REG RISERS/WING WEDGES TRAXXION SUSPENSION LD COMFORT RIDING SHORTS Find your own jock.

never thought about a thong or jock strap. I guess this just helps keep the hardware in the appropriate place. I use baby pwder to help with the monkey butt and thigh chaffing. Have you tried under armor brand which is less expensive than the mentioned riding shorts?

Nice post Dan.
For some, wearing clean women's undergarments might make them more comfortable, others not. But most would ride more carefully because of not wanting to crash.
