This is a great mod and this is what this board is all about.

I have no clue when it comes to electrical topics, but I'm just wondering, let's say I want to remove the "running light feature" of the "inboard" lights and just make it into a "brake" light. Can it be as simple as removing one of those pin from the connector and placing it in the empty slot of the connector?

I think cagers will notice more a brake light turing on from the off position, then from a "running light" mode, especially during the day.

Feel free to comment and sorry if I hijacked this thread.

Sweetlu,
If you just remove the running light connector and pop it into the empty spot on same plug, you'll eliminate a low powered running light but you'll get a high-powered brake light at all times, since the bulb is a dual-filament. Don't believe that is what you want. To get an extra brake light, you will have to tap into the brake light wiring of the outside taillight the way Dennis has described it earlier.

I'm sure that there has been tons of research done by the automotive engineers around "visual recognition patterns". More importantly, at night you'd be giving up a percentage of visible light, making yourself less visable to everyone coming up behind you. This, IMO, is when running lights are most important.

I'm ordering more pins this week for those that
have contacted me about wanting to do this mod...

The last time, it almost took a month to get them
(from China).

when they come in, I'll send out PM's
to everyone that has contacted me

thanks all ...

... the mod is not needed on your 2005 model..
The 2005 and earlier bikes came with all four lights wired.
For some reason, Honda stopped connecting the inner lights
on the 2006 and newer bikes.

More pins have been ordered.

When they arrive (a week or two?),
I'll send out PM's to everyone that has contacted me
so we can exchanged shipping and payment information.

thanks all,
Dennis

I've been stuffing envelops for the PMs I've received
and will be sending them out this week ...

So, if you want some pins
to mod your trunk lights send me a PM
'cause once the weather gets nice
I'll turn back into a lazy biker-bum and it
will be awhile before I send more out again

thanks all,
Dennis

Dennis:
The pins arrived today, in good shape & well packaged, and VERY fast service.
Thanks again for the service you are providing. I'll be doing the mod in the spring after the snow & salt are gone.

ok..
Everyone that has PM'd me with
a request for the connector pins
now has them sent in out the mail.
(the last ones went out today)

If you don't get "yours" in the next three or four days
... let me know.
If you do,
post a little "got it" here so I know everyone
is accounted for ...
(I.. am not too good at "accounting" .. )

Some who said they wanted them have not responded
...so I've got some extras if anyone else wants to try this..

thanks all.. have fun... ride safe...

Dennis

Rider Steve, the pins Dennis has are the easiest way to go. I tried just poking a wire in the bulb base but it kept coming out. The pins snap in and stay there.

Dennis,

I'll take 4 of them if you still have them....
If you are going to the Wild Turkey on the
20 , you can just bring them with you...

Pins arrived, THANK YOU!
I’m thinking to wire the inner lights to be steady, while my other four are on brake light modulator....
It of course requires running the wire under the seat before a modulator......
Do you thing it’s a dumb idea?
