Thanks for the vids. Will look at the tight turn videos this evening and learn. Dropped the Gwing doing a tight R turn during our trip to California. The wife was on at the time. Luckily she landed on me instead of the road.

My bad. It is now FY '08, and I've been trying to remember to put that on paperwork at work. And, I goofed!

Still waiting for Comcast to up the quota for the other videos.

Thanks, Pid,

I just hope that someone can pick up a tip that will help them be more confident when they're aboard their ride. That's what it's all about IMO.

The more comfortable you are, the more you'll enjoy the ride.

Practice is all it takes.

Thanks Pid for posting, and Thanks Paul for the seminar. I wish we could have made it to witness in person, but the Knoxville, and Chatanooga traffic kept us from getting there in time.

Awesome vids!

Paul,

How often do you end up at full fork travel when you are riding, not walking, the bike? Is a tight turn about how far the bars are turned or how far the bike is leaned over? It feels to me I am in a deep lean but still have fork travel available in what is as tight a turn as I can maintain.

Thanks,

Tom,
Sorry about not answering your question earlier. I didn't see it until now.

I believe it's about the lean and the handlebars. But primarily the lean. I think the lean angle determines where the forks end up pointing. However, the front wheel plays a big part in keeping the lean angle where you want it. I hope that makes sense.

I'm going to shamelessly bump this, because I finally was able to upload the rest of the files to the server. Just click on the resolution of the session that you wish to see on my first post above. They are all wmv files, but beware that some of the 640X480 videos are large (the TTdiscussion 640X480 is ~67MB). The good news is that Comcast's servers are pretty quick, and on a cable modem system they can stream after the first buffer fill.

Enjoy! And... Thanks again to Paul for the great sessions! I have practiced in the church lot about twice a week.

Uh, is it just me or is anyone else having trouble with:
Center Stand and the two Tight Turns link?
I get a error saying it is an "invalid URL".
The rest played fine. Thanks for posting them...

I'll have to try these from work. They all work great from home, but then I am on Comcast so that may be why. I'll try them today at lunch and see. Also, Comcast has stated that there may be times when their customers will not have access to the files for editing, but they will still be available to the 'net for viewing. Yeh, right. They also promised the upgrade a month ago. That's why the first files that I posted are on several different accounts. I will try in the next few days to copy them all to one account and then adjust the links in the post.

Keep trying, guys - and I'll check them myself to see if I can spot a problem. BTW, make sure you refresh the page if you have been on it before. If you still have the old page in your cache, it will not have the links to the new files in it.

BTW, can you MAC guys view the wmv files OK?

Ah ha! After clearing MY cache, they disappeared for me, too! I'll check on this later today. Could be Comcast has messed with the files that I recently uploaded.

Well, they were working for a while and now they are not. I really haven't changed anything, they just started working! I think Comcast has been moving the shells and I lost sight of the pea. Now they have stopped working. I'm so confused!

It appears that Comcast is (hopefully this will go away) only allowing two files to be accessed per user account at a time. If you don't get the file the first time, try again!

You guys are just tryin to ruin my day!
I thought I was over feeling sorry for myself for not being able to make that gathering.
Now I get to witness some of what I missed and ...

Very nice stuff pidj and Trials
A very big THANKS for all the effort to let no-shows like me enjoy some of the show.

If anyone reads this post after viewing Pauls demo.....
I want to emphasize how VERY VERY DIFFERENT it feels to me, doing slow tight turns...
WHEN YOU HAVE A PASSENGER!
Oh...you go through the same procedures...BUT

The passenger adds weight high up...
The passenger cannot (and should not attempt to) lean or counter weight...
to assist with the slow turn.
The passenger WILL put a foot down...at just the wrong time... if not properly prepared.
The fine shift of balance between turning and tipping in a slow turn
happens very fast with that extra "high-up" weight.

Everyone must ride their own ride and use their own methods.....
but I feel that, with a passenger, and all that additional high weight,
that when the bike starts to fall in a tight turn,
it takes more power, and a quicker response, to pull the bike back upright
(like Paul demonstrated)
Because I have that feeling, I don't make slow/tight turns in second gear when riding double.
I always use low gear (and trail brake with enough RPM to feel comfortable.
Of course I don't attempt to drag things in those two-up slow turns either.

Because of this... I strongly suggest anyone packing double....
should practice a few turns two-up to know the different feel is gives.
Not a bad idea if you are packing the trunk heavy for a long trip....
to do a few "get the feeling" turns with all the gear loaded.

I know I'm preaching to the choir as far as all you folks who ride with....
"passenger permanently attached" as you know the feeling intimately.
Heck...for those of us like that....we probably would need the practice more when the sidekick isn't there.

One more suggestion....(If anyone is still reading
Don't practice trail braking turns or friction zone control turns....
if your engine is missing or running rough.
If that baby coughs or sneezes at a critical moment...
you'll probably get to practice Pauls "lifting the bike" technique.

DC

pidjones,
Thank you for posting the videos and thank you trialsman for demonstrating in the videos. They are very informative and many can learn from them. I'm glad that I came across them in another thread. I download and saved them so I can watch over and over. Thanks again to both of you for you time!
Cheers,

I'm giving this a bump at Paul's good suggestion. Lots of folks hitting the streets after severe cabin fever and PMS attacks. No need to be overwhelmed by the girl just because she seems to have put on a few pounds over the winter! Check the links in the first post of this topic, and enjoy. Then - GO PRACTICE!

Will follow up with videos when I can get them added.

Some concerns with what we have seen in the video. Your trail braking is too strong and your revs are too low. That's why she is luggin so much.

I also DISAGREE with the previous comments made about doing tight turns with a co-rider. We do the figure 8 box at the expert level 2-up. No problems.

The g1800 can and will do full scraping turns in third gear without any braking and almost at complete idle. This can be done one handed in FULL control and you will not risk burning up your clutch.

I will say i was impressed with your ability to stay on the scooter and recover from the hard scraping of your hard parts.

I have only seen a few guys do that and it takes practice.

For those of you who use floorboards, I have a product available to replace your plastic sliders that will GREATLY protect your boards from scraping damage. PM me for more info. It's been used for over a month on my bike as a prototype so we are not geared up for full mass production, but I do want to get a few out there to get some "beta tests" knocked out before we ramp up.
