I do not have a computer to handle this whole map issue. Can I pay someone to download the new maps and send the chip to me for a fee. Thanks Buzz

Just spoke with Garmin. I was told there is a new update for the Goldwing City Navigator 2008. $199.00 plus shipping. Does anyone know what is happening with Garmin. Thanks Buzz

Gwingbuzz - what year is your bike??

Two - If you upgrade the way we have done this above you save basically $100.00 - $70.00 for the city nav 2009 and $20 for the CF card - up to you whether this way is better or you want someone to do this for you ... let me know ... Paul

OK, I'm ready to upload the appropriate folder/files to the CF card on my '08. DO I send all the files in the Garmin folder from the PC or just the CNN2009 folder that is within the Garmin folder?

Default Nav Upgrade

My hat is off to Rainman, Burger, UPSSnowman and others. This worked and was pretty simple once I quit trying to figure it out and just do it the way you guys said. You guys are great. Thanks. I can't ride it and see how different it is as there is snow here in Idaho, but I will as soon as it clears.

GA_Rainman...

I have to say "Thanks Again" . As a gift to myself, I bought CN2009 off the internet (80.99) and did the changeover today. As you stated, it did take a while. Mainly because I selected just about every area. CN2009 built the maps and moved them onto my CF Card without issue. I walked out, placed the CF Card back in the wing, turned it on and watched the maps load. All I could say was "SWEEEEEET".

I now have the latest Firmware update and the latest maps. Life is good.

Again, thanks for all your time. One day I hope our paths will cross and I can shake your hand in person.

Thanks to all for this great info... I ordered CN2009 last night for $76.00 shipped to my door. By next week, I should have the latest map set up and running. My '09 already has 4.31 so that's a step I won't have to mess with.

I looked inside my GPS in the trunk and found several numbers listed on stickers. There are numbers both above and below are barcoded sticker. There's also a number on another sticker that says "UNIT NAVIGATION ASSEMBLY." I'm assuming that one is a part number for the nav system.

When I go to my GPS menu to check the firmware version, I also see a "UNIT ID:" followed by a 10 digit number.

Which number is CN2009 going to ask me for?

Default Almost got it

UPDATE: Read where I should have read in teh first place! DUH! I had the '09 update, not the full version! DUH, AGAIN! Got the 2GIG card, got the '09 maps and a few hours later everything works as it should!

Now, another question? I have the "UPDATE" in my computer also. Can I use it now for newer maps, or would it make much of a difference if it did work?

Ok, Bob. Almost got it. Twice. I read somewhere that a larger card won't work, so I bought another, 2 Gig card. Same thing on both. I got 'major' roads and thoroughfares, but no streets or POIs. Used Mapsource to create the file. Twice. That's over 5 hours (slow computer). I looked and looked and can't seem to figure out where I might have missed telling it to give me streets and such. Ideas?

I would be glad to help...especially another Hoosier. Buzz, are you wanting to install the firmware update or the map update? If you are wanting to install firmware you may be in luck because I still have the update on a cf card I can just mail to you and you can plug it in. Or it may give me a reason to ride somewhere depending on weather.

Dan.

Default Canadian help

Good day!! I am a lurker and recent (June 200 owner of 2007 Wing. I am interested in updating my firmware and maps. However, I notice that my current software version is 2.10. I suspect this is a Canadian version. Is there an update file for the Canadian firmware version?? Or can I just proceed with version 4.31 update?
And can someone explain to me the "forced update" which might apply to Canadian bikes?? TIA.

John

Talking Success I was able to upgrade my 2008 GW

Thank you Rainman , I successfully upgraded my 2008 from the cn2006 version that came with to the cn2009.

To those that asked about the 3 files that the current card has, I just copied the .gcd only (I already had the 4.31) and let the map source 2009 install the .img, that worked.

I do not know what the .unl file does, but it looks that it is not needed.

Thanks again, happy riding........

Thanks. There are two numbers on the barcode; one above and one below. Did they say which one?

CN2009 asked me for the serial number which is the number below the barcode. It never game me the option of entering the Unit ID.

Smile Success was easy thanks to Rainman

Rainman, Thanks Your guide worked like a charm.

I had an 2008, and found a timesaver by having had registered my Navi unit with garmin prior to even trying the update.

Great job.
