Entering the unit ID is contrary to the instructions posted by GA Rainman. Since I'm waiting for delivery of my CN 2009 DVD, which is correct? I really don't want to go through the process twice. Thanks!

Default Update on Honda Navi problem

As of today 1/4/2007 I've heard nothing from Honda since the survey they sent asking about the phone conversation. (see previous post) Today I'm sending a 2nd letter to Honda and a letter to an attorney friend in Chicago who is an expert in this type of issue. I really don't like to be forced into using legal recourse, but I'm getting sick and tired of government and big business taking advantage.

I've noticed a few of you have contacted Honda and recieved phone calls. Have any others made a contact that hasn't mentioned it on this thread?

Default Update on Navi maps

I sent an email to Garmin a few days ago with the questions about why no more non NT maps. Here is the response I received.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
The latest update for the Honda Goldwing is 2009. Updates are only sold on pre-programmed data cards. They can be found here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=10750
I have not heard any info on the discontinuation of the Honda version of this data card.

They still have the CF cards with the latest CN2009. The question Jeff needs to answer is "Will Garmin continue to provide non-NT updates beyond the CN2009"?

The question Jeff needs to answer is "Will Garmin continue to provide non-NT updates beyond the CN2009"? I think this is a question that Honda needs to answer. Honda sold the factory installed GPS units.

Thanks to Rainman, Smattos, Snowman, and anyone that I didn't mention for the post and the firmware update and the website for the City Navigator software. It took some persistance but I now have a 4.13 system and 2009 maps. I'm pumped up, too bad it's 8 degrees and snowing outside or I would be able to test the system out.

You still have at least one year old maps, the 2010 maps have been out for several months. No 2010 maps for the Wing though.

I don't have a Honda branded GPS but in my experience, it isn't cost effective to update map software more often than every 3 or so years.

Default Navi map update re Garmin Contact

Based on some of your comments, I sent an email to Garmin just to requestion and verify the original question on continuation of the Honda Navi non NT maps and here is the second answer. Surely, this isn't what our polititions do?
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Again, until they officially announce the discontinuation of the Goldwing CF cards, we would not have any info on if they are going to continue to make it or discontinue it.

Default Navi map update update

Today 1/8/10 I recieved another phone call from a nice young lady from Honda stating almost exactly the same thing that the previous email from Garmin stated. She did state that the problem is totally Garmins decision and that they (Honda) have no control over the situation. She says my concerns will be recorded. At least they have not totally ignored me. Two emails and two phone calls.

I had the same result. The serial number doesn't work...the unit ID from the screen Does Work.

It is my understanding that you are going to always be 1 year behind anyway. I had a 2006 bike so i am at least 3 possibly 4 years better. Like I said, the roads that I had been traveling on a regular basis were not showing up, now they are , so I am happy with the upgraded map, whether it is 08 or 09 .

I would like to update my '08' but don't know that much about doing that or where to go for any and all info. The wife says we don't need to spend any more $$ on the bike this winter ether.
O well, I have all summer to get it done, now to find some one near me to show how it's done.
Also I have the same maps as the place I work on there Trimble system on our trucks so I can say to much about out of date maps they paid $$$$ for theres.

#1 Chances are that a software upgrade to a 2008 GPS would offer few if any changes of note at this time.

#2 I'm lost on this overall thread. Are updates available for Honda branded GPS units? If so, from whom, and at what cost?

The 08 has the latest firmware. I manually updated my 08 myself to the 09 maps using the same CF card.(last non-nt maps) I believe you can still buy the pre loaded card for Honda with the 09 maps.

Thanks to all who have helped with this non NT map update issue. I just ordered a 2009 non-NT City Navigator DVD and hope to update my maps when it comes in. The update of my firmware as described here worked like a champ! Also, I have just gone around in circles with Garmin. Their current stand on non NT maps is that they will never ever again support non-NT or any kind of updates for it. They also reiterated what some have said on this thread that they will not support the updating of the Honda NAVI using the City Navigator method described here. They will only support the install of the $150 CF card that is purchased from them. They were aware that GoldWing NAVI owners are doing CN DVD methiod of update and said I could do that as an option, but again, they could not support this method of update. What's really amazing to me is that new 2010 GoldWings may be built with this same old technology which is no longer supported. Perhaps Honda and Garmin may come up with an NT GPS that could be retrofitted to the 06 - 10 Wings? Bet it wouldn't be cheap.....

I probably missed it buried in these 11 pages, but does anyone know if the 06-08 unit is upgradeable to the 09/10 version GPS?

Default Updated 2008 Nav

Following the thread's instructions, I successfully updated my 2008 to the newest maps using the screen's unit ID # rather than the serial # off the barcode on the unit.

The software first prompted me for the serial # and I tried the unit ID# from the screen only to be greeted with a warning that this was an error. I proceeded until I saw a prompt resulting in a second screen asking for an internal unit id #. I input the Nav's unit ID from the "system info" page. It proceeded to write the files after a warning that if the number was wrong there would be no refunds from Garmin. In retrospect, I wish I had copied down the exact steps and the software prompts so I could give more exact detail.

Once done writing, plugged it in, and it works great!

Thanks to all for your help with this procedure!

Maybe a dumb question but how or where do you plug in the CF card into your computer??

I looked for ports that look configured for a CF on my desktop and laptop, no visable openings.

No such thing as a dumb question.... your PCor laptop must be equipped with a CF card reader. You can purchase CF card reader from your local electronics store that will plug into your PC's USB port. It's basically an external drive designed to read CF/SD and other mini storage cards.

If you're computer doesn't have a built in card reader, you'll need to get one...widely available....good luck....they look like this http://www.amazon.com/tag/cf%20card%20reader
